Honesty is not something negotiable especially when it has to do with relationships between two or more people as there is absolutely no way a group will stand firm when dishonesty is the key. It will end up chaotic or probably be disassembled.
What is friendship when it's based on lies, let alone marriage or a business? One scary thing is that you might even be dishonest to yourself. You asked how? That's even the easiest form of exhibiting dishonesty.
So many times we know what we did is wrong but because we don't want to carry the guilt, we give an excuse for doing it. We do something shameful, we find a reason as an umbrella. How many excuses have we gave for procrastinating on things we are supposed to do? Or trying to avoid someone or something because we feel we can't face it? Those are ways of being dishonest to ourselves.
Some go as far as saying that they grew up watching their fathers beat up their mothers so they felt it was right to do it to their wives too. They are only being dishonest and deceiving themselves from calling themselves the real names they are. No matter how little a dispute is in a relationship, tracing it well makes you see the foundation to be lies and deceit.
I saw someone lied to a guy about her religion simply because she loved the guy, they were of different religion and she knows fully well that the guy wouldn't marry her if he knew. So she lied her way into the relationship and even dragged her mum into it. Unfortunately, the guy caught on her but was after they had married and eventually, the marriage collapsed.
Building a house with the wrong foundation is the most wrong decision which will not only be a waste of time and resources put into it but a waste of sweats and efforts put into it.
No matter what, honesty is a non-negotiable quality in building or maintaining a healthy relationship and once lost, its difficult to get back because a sticker won't stick or hold the same way it stick the first time before it was removed.
