Today, I want to take a closer look at what we took away from the Round of 16 match at the U-17 Women’s World Championship, held in the warm city of San Felipe, Chile. A match that, beyond the cold, hard result, taught us lessons, showed us fighting spirit, and gave us confidence in the future of our volleyball.
As we already know from previous reports, our Vinotinto national team was unable to break through Chinese Taipei’s tactical defense, falling in three straight sets (0-3).
The Match: Speed vs. Power
The match had a very clear tone from the opening whistle: the clash of two opposing styles. On one side, Chinese Taipei’s speed, tactical precision, and suffocating court defense; on the other, Venezuela’s physical power, reach at the net, and unmistakable tenacity. Unfortunately, the Asian wall proved more effective this time.

Venezuela managed to keep pace thanks to the offensive effectiveness of its key players, but Chinese Taipei stepped up its reception and counterattack in the final points. In the second set (19-25), Venezuela’s inconsistent reception took its toll, limiting their setting options and making the opponent’s defensive work easier. In the third set (22-25), Venezuela made adjustments, fought point for point with courage, and even took the lead at various points, but the Asian team’s experience and composure down the stretch sealed the match.

Despite the loss, the Venezuelan U-17 team demonstrated that it has elite individual talent capable of competing at this level. A look at the technical statistics highlights the players who carried the team on their shoulders:
Yalesca Colina (Outside Hitter/Receiver): The captain and Venezuelan MVP of the tournament did not disappoint. She battled against the Asian wall and was Venezuela’s top scorer with 15 points (14 from attacks and 1 from blocks). Colina reaffirmed why she is one of the most feared attackers in the tournament, although this time the opponent’s high volume of play limited her overall effectiveness.
Amanda Pacheco (Opposite): She provided offensive support with 8 points (7 from attacks and 1 from serves), showing aggression at the net during critical moments of the third set.
Fabianny Carima: She brought solidity at the net with 3 decisive blocks, demonstrating our national team’s physical reach.
The critical point in the data: the statistics reveal that Chinese Taipei largely dominated the “Field Defense” (Digs) and “Points from Opponent Errors” categories. Venezuela committed more unforced errors on serve and reception, which gave the Asian team breathing room during key moments in each set.
The Real Takeaway: The Future Is Bright
Losing in the Round of 16 to an Asian team that is a powerhouse in this category (Chinese Taipei won bronze in the previous tournament) is part of the necessary learning process in high-performance sports. The value of this experience lies not in the 0-3 result, but in HOW this generation competed.
This U-17 team, where more than half the roster is barely over 15 years old, demonstrated tactical identity, competitive spirit, and elite individual talent that inspires dreams.

Venezuela isn’t out yet! The journey continues for the Women’s U-17 Vinotinto in the 9th–16th place playoff round. Their next opponent will be the Polish national team (Final Round – Women’s #78). The match will take place this Friday, August 14, at 5:00 p.m. local time (5:00 p.m. Venezuela time) in Santiago, Chile.

Hoy quiero detenerme a analizar con lupa lo que nos dejó el choque de Octavos de Final del Campeonato Mundial Femenino Sub-17 disputado en la cálida sede de San Felipe, Chile. Un partido que, más allá del resultado frío, nos dejó lecciones, garra y certezas sobre el futuro de nuestro voleibol.
Como ya sabemos por los reportes previos, nuestra Selección Vinotinto no pudo descifrar el cerrojo táctico de China Taipei, cayendo derrotada en tres sets corridos (0-3).

El partido tuvo una tónica muy clara desde el pitazo inicial: el choque de dos escuelas opuestas.
