We Say, “Her Choice.” But Do We Really Mean It? | Aiman khan #LOH

It’s strange how differently we sometimes look at women’s choices.

When it comes to clothing and personal freedom, we often say that every woman has the right to choose what makes her comfortable. Yet when a woman chooses to wear the hijab, she may be questioned, judged, or even looked at differently. Why?

Hijab is also a personal choice for many women. I don’t know about everyone else, but I genuinely like wearing it. I feel safe, comfortable, and at peace within my own sense of modesty. For me, it is not a restriction; it is something I have chosen for myself.

At the same time, a woman who doesn’t wear hijab is also making her own choice, and that does not make her any less beautiful or worthy of respect. We should be able to appreciate women for who they are without turning every difference into an issue.

If someone chooses to wear hijab, perhaps we can appreciate the effort and intention behind that choice instead of judging her. And if someone chooses differently, we can extend the same respect to her.

Maybe the real problem is not our differences, but the way we make those differences into problems.

We don’t always have to agree with someone’s choices to respect them. Sometimes, a little understanding, kindness, and acceptance is all that is needed. 🤍

And aren’t we supposed to believe in women supporting women? I have never believed that a woman’s worth should be measured by what she wears. I don’t judge a woman by her clothing, because I believe there is so much more to a person than what meets the eye. I have come across so many wonderful, kind-hearted, and supportive women here, and they remind me that understanding and respect still exist. I know there are women who think like me, who believe that supporting one another should never depend on how similarly we dress or how closely our choices align. We don’t have to make the same choices to stand beside one another. If we truly believe in women’s empowerment, acceptance, and sisterhood, then let’s practise them in real life, too. A woman choosing hijab deserves respect, just as a woman choosing not to wear it does. After all, supporting women means respecting their dignity, not judging them by their appearance. 🤍
