Classic Fried Bananas Topped with Cheese

It’s nice to have a fried snack every now and then. It’s certainly fine, provided it’s not an everyday habit. I rarely make snacks like this—sometimes not even once a month. I only make this kind of fried treat when I happen to have bananas on hand.

These classic fried bananas topped with cheese are perfect for an afternoon snack, especially paired with black coffee. Oh, it’s absolutely delicious! I made time to whip this up after gardening. I needed a mood boost after putting so much energy into my garden work, hehe.

They are incredibly easy to make, of course. I used gluten-free flour, but you can use the standard all-purpose flour you usually use for frying foods.

The Ingredients

IMG_9740.jpeg

  • A few bananas (not overly ripe; adjust the quantity based on how much batter you have)
  • 3 tablespoons rice flour
  • 1 tablespoon tapioca flour
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • Cooking oil (as needed)

Cooking Instructions

IMG_9739.jpeg Use firm bananas. There are many varieties of bananas in my area—some are best eaten raw when ripe, while others are perfect for frying. Ideally, you want ripe bananas that still have a firm, dense texture rather than a mushy one. Using bananas that aren't overly ripe ensures they won't fall apart or turn into a soggy mess during frying.

IMG_9741.jpeg

I sliced the bananas into rounds, but you could also simply cut them in half lengthwise. Just choose the method that’s quickest and easiest for you in the kitchen so the process doesn't become tedious. :)

IMG_9742.jpeg Prepare the batter. Combine all the flours, baking powder, and salt, then mix well.

IMG_9743.jpeg Next, add the water to the flour mixture and stir until smooth. If the batter isn't thick enough, add a little more water.

IMG_9744.jpeg Heat the oil for frying. Then, add the banana pieces to the batter. I’m frying three pieces at a time to create a nice shape.

IMG_9745.jpeg Fry the bananas over medium heat—avoid high heat, as this batter causes them to burn quickly. I fry them for two minutes per side, though the exact timing depends on the type of pan you use.

IMG_9746.jpeg Flip the bananas over. Make sure they turn a beautiful golden brown, then remove them from the pan and let them drain.

SERVING

IMG_9747.jpeg Serve the Classic Fried Bananas with your favorite toppings; I’m using cheese. Enjoy your Classic Fried Bananas topped with cheese while they’re still warm.

A simple yet meaningful afternoon. It’s been quite a while since I’ve enjoyed a deep-fried treat like this. It feels great—and not excessive, since the rest of the batch is for others.

IMG_9748.jpeg I only ate two pieces, but that was enough to give me a real energy boost. Thank God.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

The way the food is being presented is juat wonderful. In my place we usually take the long plantations for frying, but this also sounds good. Kudos to your cooking dear friend.
