Was minding my own business and this random dog showed up at the park and was slowly encrouching on the exercise station area. I stood my ground and spooked it a few times.
Eventually took off a ways, found a small stick and made my way back as a just in case due to concern for this young man and his children. To my not surprise, I noticed the dog seemed to be edging his way closer to them so gave another rush intercepting the approach.
At some point I got Converse PD on the line and the concerned parent asked if I was calling them. By the time I got through, the dog had retreated. I think I know where he is coming from so will inform the establishment that they need to address it.
Yes, I get that maybe this dog just wants to play or something but you never know until you get bit.
The man expresses his gratitude for my intervention and I went about my way. I warned some trail goers of the dog just in case it returned and sure enough it did. I had discarded the slender stick but had my umbrella but would imagine it not being the most effective should I have to fend it off. Better than nothing I suppose.
Of course, this is Texas so I was packing but def would not want to have to put down somebody's pet unless absolutely necessary. In any case, seems like the dog was actually all bark and no bite and eventually left. Thankfully that was the end of it.
Other exercises for the day included
- Jump-assisted muscle ups (hoping to be able to do them regular again but working my way up to it)
- leg extensions
- rowing machine
- climbing monkey bars
Apart from dealing with the dog, significant challenge was the Texas heat and UV. I bring a mini umbrella to try and shield my skin and will apply sunscreen multiple times but it often feels like I am on the brink of sunburn. Also carrying an umbrella while running is a challenge in an of itself. Sometimes gusts of wind would hit and I felt like I was about to fly away like Mary Poppins!
