“Conteret et confriget” - watercolors on paper

Hello to all my dear Hivers friends, and welcome back to my blog. Today I’m sharing an unusual watercolor depicting an ancient defensive gateway to a monastery.

As you can see from my photos, what struck me most was the Latin inscription on the lintel, “conteret et confriget,” which means “it will crush and shatter,” referring to any enemies who dared to cross that threshold.

I chose to interpret the photograph using light, warm pastel colors, and I wanted to highlight the inscription carved into the stone lintel. I enriched the scene with some vegetation to balance the warm tones. I hope you like my watercolor painting. "Conteret et confriget" - acquarelli su carta

Ciao a tutti cari amici Hivers e bentornati sul mio blog. Oggi condivido un acquarello inusuale che raffigura un antico portale difensivo di accesso ad un monastero. Come potete vedere dalle mie foto, la parte che mi ha colpito di più è stata la scritta in latino sull'architrave "conteret et confriget" che significa "stritolerà e spezzerà" riferito ai nemici che osavano oltrepassare quella soglia. Ho voluto interpretare la fotografia con colori pastello leggeri e caldi, ed ho voluto mettere in evidenza la scritta incisa sul trave in pietra. Ho arricchito la scena con della vegetazione per bilanciare i toni caldi.
