Among all the attractions we got to enjoy during our visit to the Bogotá Botanical Garden, there was one that stole my heart: the Lorencita Villegas de Santos Rose Garden. 🌹 It’s a beautiful place named after Colombia’s former first lady, in tribute to her work and legacy.
We were lucky enough to visit during one of the best times of year, between June and August, when the roses are in full bloom. There were flowers everywhere—in different colors, sizes, and shapes—treating us to a spectacle that was impossible not to admire. I was blown away, as the Spanish say, by so much beauty all in one place.

Entre todos los atractivos que pudimos disfrutar en nuestra visita al Jardín Botánico de Bogotá, hubo uno que me robó el corazón: La Rosaleda Lorencita Villegas de Santos. 🌹 Un lugar precioso que lleva el nombre de quien fue primera dama de Colombia, en homenaje a su labor y legado.
Tuvimos la suerte de visitarla en una de las mejores temporadas, entre junio y agosto, cuando las rosas están en todo su esplendor. Había flores por todas partes, de diferentes colores, tamaños y formas, regalándonos un espectáculo que era imposible no admirar. Yo estaba flipando, como dicen los españoles, con tanta belleza junta.
According to our guide, there are between 50 and 60 varieties of roses there. Imagine how wonderful it is to walk among so many rosebushes, stop to admire their petals, discover their colors, and get close enough to appreciate their shapes and scents, too.
But beyond the beauty of these flowers, this place held a very special meaning for me. Roses were one of my mom’s favorite flowers, and as I walked through the rose garden, I couldn’t help but think of her. There are places, scents, and little details that connect us to the people we love, even when they’re no longer physically by our side.
I left with many photos, my eyes filled with flowers, and my heart full of joy at having enjoyed such beauty. If you visit the Bogotá Botanical Garden, be sure to stop by this rose garden. And if you can choose the date, make sure to go right in the middle of the blooming season! I assure you it’s absolutely worth it.
Según nos contó el guía, allí podemos encontrar entre 50 y 60 variedades de rosas. Imagínense la maravilla de caminar entre tantos rosales, detenerse a contemplar sus pétalos, descubrir sus colores y acercarse para apreciar sus formas y aromas, también.
Pero, más allá de la belleza de estas flores, para mí este lugar tuvo un significado muy especial. Las rosas eran una de las flores preferidas de mi mamá y, mientras recorría la rosaleda, no podía evitar pensar en ella. Hay lugares, aromas y pequeños detalles que nos conectan con las personas que amamos, incluso cuando ya no están físicamente a nuestro lado.
Me fui de allí con muchas fotografías, los ojos llenos de flores y el corazón contento por haber disfrutado de tanta belleza. Si visitan el Jardín Botánico de Bogotá, no dejen de pasar por esta rosaleda. Y, si pueden elegir la fecha, ¡háganlo en plena temporada de floración! Les aseguro que vale muchísimo la pena.
