Invisible Horizons

The power of words. How do we talk to ourselves? (EN-ES)

In the world of the invisible there are many things, things that cannot be seen and lie beyond the horizon. They cannot be seen with the physical eyes, but they can be felt; that is why the fact that we cannot see them does not mean they do not exist. And likewise, the fact that we have not experienced something does not mean it is not there.

Amonet.

Perhaps I find it much easier to understand the world that is invisible to most people, because I see things from those worlds that seem far away, and I often wonder how much more there is to see that I am not ready for, or that I have not chosen to see.

But what is invisible often manifests itself in some other way, and not necessarily through the sense of sight. And in this regard, I think about the great power the mind holds, for better or for worse. Like the other day when I was here talking about positive thinking. Both the thoughts that arise in the mind and the words that express those thoughts have incredible power over people, and I’ve seen this for myself.

A single word can encourage or destroy someone, so it’s better not to use negative or harmful words and intentions rather than positive ones. It’s better to build than to destroy. I remember when I used to teach computer classes; almost all my students were elderly, always over 60, many of them retired, and I saw how important it was to offer supportive, encouraging words. Because the thought ‘I can’t’ is always present in everyone’s mind, and even more so in theirs, as, because of their age, they think they can’t learn anything new.

20260703_210424.jpg

I remember putting up a huge poster in the classroom that said: ‘Anything you can imagine is possible.’ Right in front of them, so they could always read it, repetition breeds habit and belief. When they’d say to me, ‘I don’t know if I can do it,’ I’d reply, ‘Of course you can.’ And I’d reinforce those words by resting my hand on one of their shoulders. Support is everything. Words have a lot of power and, as I say, they can be used for good or for bad.

And this leads to another topic: how we talk to ourselves, what we tell ourselves, what our inner dialogue is like, whether we treat ourselves well or badly. This is extremely important. I remember a pupil called Kela; she told me that her mother always used to tell her she was stupid, very stupid, but she went on to become a teacher. That mother’s words were destructive to her daughter, and so too are the unspoken words that fail to encourage children or express love.

20260703_210329.jpg

But my student became a teacher and taught children; she was able to turn that negative label into a positive one, not everyone can do that. The words parents say to their children when they are young are fundamental to their personalities, and often parents don’t realise this.

But when it comes to what we say to ourselves, the issue becomes even more important. Words are like mountains; they can make us strong or they can be obstacles, depending on what those words are. Do you ever pay attention to what you say to yourselves? That will determine what happens in life and what you are capable of achieving.

20260703_211227.jpg

And this ties in with the subject of thoughts: what we tell ourselves generates a way of thinking, and that way of thinking generates a feeling; and when that feeling runs deep, it becomes a reality. If we tell ourselves that we cannot do or achieve something and believe it with conviction, we will not do it, but for the simple reason that the universe wants to prove us right.

And that’s where self-love comes in, firstly, to accept ourselves as we are, but also because if we love ourselves, we’ll never speak badly to ourselves; we won’t wish ill upon ourselves. If a person keeps saying things like… ‘bad things always happen to me’, ‘I’m always ill’, ‘I never have any money’, ‘everything goes wrong for me’, ‘nobody loves me’… what do you think will happen over time? We’re sending out a negative energetic message, and that comes back to us.

20260703_211603.jpg

One of the steps towards changing the polarity of our words and thoughts is to speak kindly to ourselves, even if we’re not entirely convinced of it at first. Perseverance is always the key. There’s no change without willpower, effort and perseverance. Change takes time, but it’s always possible. Just imagine, if you can imagine it, it’s real.

¿No será demasiado tarde? A silenciar mis pensamientos negativos.

Thank you for this wonderfully timed post. I needed this now and appreciate it. Been trying to give myself more positive self talk and positive reinforcement. Still have to get better at catching those negative thoughts when they enter my head.

Also, the music choice was superb.
