Her passing was marked by suffering and the inexplicable; it was not understood by those around her. An illness took her from this world in a short space of time, whilst she was still in the prime of her youth.

Despair took hold of the souls of her closest relatives and those who held her dearest, trapping them in an endless cycle of grief that would never end. A suffering that repeated itself day after day as memories kept flooding back into their minds. They haunted their thoughts, took hold of them, and nothing else existed anymore.

Meanwhile, she lay behind a forgotten gravestone, the memories kept at a distance. No one visited her, even though her soul was no longer there. Day after day, her spirit wept in silence, feeling trapped between light and darkness, that darkness of this world which would not let her go. Grief consumed her; she remembered her family, those who mourned her, and how every sad memory and every tear shed were like anchors in her dull gaze.

At times during the night, when they were asleep, she could see them and longed for them. But only in those moments when their minds did not bind her could she see herself rising. When day returned to this earth, she was bound once more.

Loneliness dragged her soul along, without the freedom to be set free, and her family neither knew nor understood this. Every tear prevented her from drawing near to her daughters and saying goodbye to them, an unresolved matter that was always painful.

The years passed, with no major changes, unresolved grief and unbroken ties. Her soul had already turned grey, and if she did not ascend soon, she would be lost. Unspoken words, unuttered sighs, unfulfilled actions, unresolved matters suspended in the air like stray clouds.

One night she went to visit them; they were fast asleep. She began to recall the happiest moments, and tears of emotion welled up down her pale, translucent cheeks. One of those tears fell onto the cheek of the man who had been her daughters’ father, and at that moment a portal opened.

They were able to see each other for a moment, in a fleeting dream, and when he saw her, which was what he had been waiting for for three years, he understood what his heart longed for: that she be set free and that her soul might journey towards the light. To forgive what needed forgiving, to say what had gone unsaid, and to sever ties, yet never to forget, for from that there is no escape.

He woke with a start, sweating on a cold night whilst it rained outside. He sat down at his desk and wrote a long letter. Every word was a tear upon the page, tears of farewell, yet at the same time of joy at that glimpse. As the letters appeared on the page, they caused the gravestone bearing her name to crack, little by little.

When the letter was finished, large cracks could be seen in the forgotten grave, the one he had never wanted to visit, unwilling to acknowledge that she had left this world, taking their unfinished conversations with her. But distance does not exist when the heart speaks, and after finishing the letter, he placed it on a tray and began to burn it.

At that moment, the gravestone split in two, laying bare its interior. They say that when a grave breaks, the soul can escape the bonds of the earthly world and finally reach heaven. Nothing remained inside that place; the body had been completely consumed by so much sorrow and suffering, leaving a dark void within the hollow.

But now her soul smiled, free from the chains of guilt and regret on both sides, chains that had been broken, freeing her daughters too, so that at last they might live their lives unburdened. Relief washed over the souls involved, who were now set free.

Un abrazo fuerte con muchos espantos.

    Good morning, dear friend @avdesing

I believe that no one has a guarantee on life, so every day is an opportunity to tell our loved ones the things that worry us or how much we love them.

The worst thing that can happen to us is to see a loved one pass away without having told them everything we thought or how much we loved them.

A sad story that leaves you with something to reflect on.

I take this opportunity to wish you a beautiful afternoon.

  • Hello, Amonet.

Losing a loved one is always very painful, but losing a loved one at a young age must be devastating.

I love your writing style and how you captivate us with your words.

    Have a wonderful afternoon.

Good morning, and a terrifying one at that, @avdesing. A very well-told story about family secrets. Some believe that liberation from these family ties comes through forgetting, when it's the opposite... liberation can only come by remembering, acknowledging the pain, understanding, and saying goodbye.

The image of the tombstone cracking is very effective and a very good ending to the story.

Big hug, have a great start to the week.
