Okay... the garden and house are developing slowly... but we are moving in the right direction! Anyway, in between projects... my wife and I had a free couple of mornings to finally finish one end of the grassed area. This meant that we now are only fighting back the weeds and errant unwanted growth one on side instead of both sides!
The clearing was done the week previously... again, in the small moments of spare time in between projects... and we had some of the sandy loam delivered in preparation for the grass rolls. One cubic metre, and that was more than enough... as you can see, we had leftover from last time... and that had turned into a weedy nightmare, but we just dumped the new load on top of that, and started barreling and shoveling away!
Little bit by little bit... I have to keep remembering to not overfill the wheelbarrow, dirt is a whole lot heavier than I think... and our wheelbarrow is also starting to get a bit rickety and will misbalance easily if I'm not careful!
Got to move those blocks... hopefully the washing line will still stay standing... as anyone with kids and a Hills hoist knows... these do double duty as swings... despite the pleas from parents, and they eventually work their way out of the ground!
We are planning to replace the hoist with a longer single washing line... on the list of things to do. I figure that we can do that later and cut into the grass after it is established, and it will heal itself.... my wife wanted to do the washing line first... but that ended up being stalled... so I started on the grass instead. Better to do something than getting stuck on the perfect solution... sometimes...
The bricks were useful to flatten down the loam... and we could start laying the San Anna cooch on top. In the past, I had been doing this myself, but this time my wife was helping with the grass laying... goes a lot quicker and is a good deal more fun with a partner helping out!
Damn it... we both had measured up the area, and we fell about 3 square metres short still! I guess this is why we are musicians and not landscapers or handy people! Oh well, one more trip to the grass centre and it was fixed up in the afternoon... they had some leftover from the morning's delivery and it was exactly what we needed to fix up the last uncovered area!
