The movie Kirikou and the Sorceress. I watched this movie a very long time ago, and I can still remember that Kirikou was one of the movies my mom normally put on for us when we were kids. I really enjoyed watching it. So today, I was looking for a movie to make a review on, and I suddenly remembered Kirikou. I decided to watch it again and share my review with my amazing friends here. Watching it again really brought back some childhood memories.
Kirikou was a boy full of wisdom and knowledge. He was very smart, and what made him different was that he could already talk while he was still inside his mother's womb. His mother was always surprised because she could not understand how a baby that had not even come out of her womb could already be talking to her.
His mother gave birth to Kirikou, and immediately he came into the world, he went straight into the water and bathed himself. After that, he asked his mother, "Mother, where is my dad?" His mother was so shocked. How can a baby that was just born already be asking about his father and talking like a grown person?
The people in the village really loved Kirikou because of the way he talked. They enjoyed having conversations with him because he talked like a very intelligent grown-up.
There was also a wicked sorceress called Karaba. She made the people in the village suffer and live in fear. She had dried up their water source, and the villagers were struggling because of it.
There was a time when the children of the village were playing, and Karaba put an evil tree there to attract them. The children climbed it, but the tree suddenly started moving with them and carried them away. Kirikou saw what was happening and immediately looked for a way to save them. He took a cutlass and started cutting the tree down. He told the children to shake it because it would make it easier for him to cut it down. This was how he finally saved them.
Another time, Kirikou entered a hole and discovered a cow with a very big stomach filled with water. Since the village was suffering from lack of water, he got a cutlass and cut open the stomach of the cow. Suddenly, the water rushed out and the people in the village started celebrating.
Afterwards, Kirikou fell out of the hole and was not breathing. His mother picked him up and put him on her lap. Everyone gathered and started crying because they thought he was dead. Then suddenly, Kirikou coughed and woke up, and everyone became excited.
Kirikou later decided to find a way to stop Karaba. His grandfather told him that something connected to her back was responsible for her powers. If it could be removed, she would lose her powers.
Kirikou started digging deep into the ground so he could reach Karaba without being seen. When he finally got close to her, he jumped onto her back and grabbed the object with his teeth and pulled it out.
Immediately, everything started changing. The grass came alive, beautiful things appeared everywhere, and Karaba was finally freed. Then Karaba kissed Kirikou, and something amazing happened. Kirikou suddenly became a tall and grown-up man.
For me, this is one of those childhood movies that still feels special even after many years. Watching it again brought back memories of when my mom used to put it on for us when we were kids. What I enjoyed most about Kirikou is that he was very small, but he was never afraid to face problems that even grown people were scared of. He was smart, brave and always looking for a way to help people.
I also enjoyed the way the movie showed that sometimes the person who looks small can be the one who makes the biggest difference. Kirikou saved the children, helped bring water back to the village and finally found a way to free Karaba.
