Hello everyone your welcome to my blog today ♥️
This film isn't a straight-up horror movie, though it draws on the genre; there is palpable suspense and, of course, a survival-style thriller element that defines the whole experience. And when I speak of survival, that is exactly what five dancers are trying to achieve: fighting with everything they’ve got to escape the place where they’ve ended up. The premise is wild the question I posed in the title confirms that but what actually unfolds on screen is inexplicable. I’m not sure if it’s incredibly cool or a total disaster, but for some strange reason, there were parts that surprised me and that I might have even enjoyed.
We have five ballet dancers including Bones (Maddie Ziegler) and Princess (Lana Condor) who cannot stand one another; the rivalry within the group is intense. Despite this, they are highly skilled at what they do, which earned them an invitation to a dance competition in Hungary. Once in Europe, however, things go wrong: they face issues with their flight and later with their ground transport, as their bus breaks down deep in the woods, leaving them stranded in the middle of nowhere. While looking for a way out or at least a place to stay they come across a sort of inn-cum-bar with a rather peculiar appearance; if the goal was to create an eerie atmosphere, they certainly succeeded.
The place is run by a mysterious woman a total enigma named Devora Kasimer (Uma Thurman), who rules over whatever operation is going on inside with an apparently iron fist. The young women soon realize they aren't safe; their nagging sense that something is wrong that danger is looming quickly becomes reality. From that point on, it turns into a frantic struggle where they must prove what they’re made of if they want to make it out of the inn in one piece; to do so, they have to put aside their squabbles and differences and work together and believe me, they really do. What can I say? I was genuinely surprised by the action sequences, though that’s where the praise ends, as the backstory and script are pretty weak. I have nothing against coincidences, but the fact that they ended up at a run-down inn where the owner just happened to be a former dancer like them? That feels a bit forced to me.
Anyway, accepting that these things happen, we move on. The action sequences. Watching these dancers hold their own relying on a mix of animal survival instinct and ballet moves is absolutely wild. The place is crawling with mob thugs, yet the dancers using sheer coordination, synchronized movement, and guts put up a fight that was both impressive and surreal. Beyond that, the scenes are great: the choreography is entertaining, the gore is graphic, and the death scenes are striking.
Just picture a ballerina—with all that flexibility and a razor-sharp blade attached to her pointe shoe killing men and slitting their throats. It’s cool to watch, and even funny, though I can't quite decide if that’s a bad thing or not. The film has a touch of dark humor nothing over-the-top, but it’s there. You genuinely won't get bored, even though the plot is predictable and you know exactly what’s going to happen.
