Hi, internet folks – how’s it going? Today I want to tell you about a K-drama I’ve been wanting to watch for quite a while and have only just started watching. It’s called ‘Lawyer Woo, an Extraordinary Lawyer’, one of the best K-dramas I’ve ever seen.

The story follows Woo Young Woo, a young woman with autism spectrum disorder who is a lawyer, and the series centres on how Woo copes with her day-to-day life, not only at work but also in her personal life.
La historia nos habla de Woo Young Woo, una chica con Sindrome del Espectro Autista que es abogada y la serie gira en torno a como Woo se desenvuelve en sus día a día no solo en el trabajo sino también en su entorno
The first thing I must say is that the series tackles the subject in a respectful and empathetic way; it educates and raises awareness about the syndrome. The actress did an excellent job – the way she walks, every one of her body language cues, how she avoids looking people in the face… …she displays every single characteristic associated with the syndrome. Her performance is superb and handled with respect; in fact, the actress turned down the role several times for fear of causing offence, but the production team persuaded her to accept it because they were convinced that she, and no one else, was the right person to bring Woo to life.
Lo primero que debo decir es que la serie aborda el tema de una forma respetuosa y desde la empatía, educa y concientiza acerca del sindrome, la actriz hizo un trabajo excelente, la forma en la que camina, cada uno de sus gestos corporales, como evita mirar a la cara a las personas... tiene cada una de las características presentes en el sidrome su actuación es buenísima y abordada con respeto, de hecho la actriz rechazó el personaje varias veces por tener miedo de herir susebtibilidades pero la producción la convenció de aceptar porque estaban convencidos que era ella y nadie más quien debía darle vida a Woo
What I like is that the series tackles the issues and prejudices faced by autistic people, as well as the protagonist’s challenges and successes. One of the ‘criticisms’ is that, according to the series, it does not reflect all types of autism and that there is no neurodiversity (with regard to the actress), which is a fallacy; in episode 3, Woo must prove the innocence of a client who, like her, has autism, however, he has a much more severe form of autism, so the series does in fact show that there are different types of autism. This episode highlights the importance of proving the client’s innocence to demonstrate that autistic people are just as capable and are not aggressive, etc. Furthermore, I believe that acting is about portraying what you are not, so I don’t feel there needed to be an actress who was actually autistic because she wouldn’t be acting; she’d simply be portraying her own condition. Rather, I feel it is admirable and commendable that the actress has portrayed the condition so well, with empathy and respect.
Lo que me gusta es que la serie aborda los problemas y prejucios hacia las personas autistas, los desafíos de la protagonista y los aciertos. Una de las "criticas" es que según la serie no refleja todos los tipos de autismo y que no hay neurodivergencia (respecto a la actriz) y es una falasia, en el episodio 3 Woo debe demostrar la inocencia de un cliente que padece de autismo igual que ella, sin embargo, este posee un grado de autismo mucho mayor, asi que la serie muestra que en efecto hay diferentes tipos de autismo y este episodio muestra la importancia de demostrar la inocencia de cliente para demostrar que los autistas valen igual y no son agresivos etc, además considero que actuar se trata de retratar lo que no eres, asi que no siento que tuviese que haber una actriz que fuese realmente autista porque no estaria actuando, seria ella misma retratando su condición, siento más bien que es admirable y aplaudible que la actriz haya retratado tan bien la condición desde la empatia y el respeto
The exploration of Woo’s romantic life is one of the most acclaimed aspects of the series, as Jun-ho loves and respects her; he is patient, understands her limits and accepts her conditions. He even reads her body language to gauge beforehand whether he can hug her or hold her hand. He describes his love for her as the kind one feels for a cat: ‘Cats sometimes ignore their owners, making them feel lonely, yet the happiness and companionship they offer make up for everything else.” This sums up how he sees his relationship with her, who is autistic, showing that he understands the challenges of being her boyfriend, but that she makes him happy and he is willing to face them alongside her.
La exploración del ámbito amoroso de Woo es una de las partes más aplaudidas dado a que Jun-ho la ama y la respeta, tiene paciencia, entiende sus limites y acepta sus condiciones, incluso lee su lenguaje corporal para saber antes si puede abrazarla o tomarla de la mano, define su amor por ella como la que se le tiene a un gato "los gatos a veces ignoran a sus dueños haciendolos sentir solos, sin embargo la felicidad y compañía que devuelven compensa todo lo demás" eso define lo que es a sus ojos la relación con ella que es autista, demostrando que entiende los desafíos de ser su novio pero lo hace feliz y está dispuesto a vivirlos con ella
To sum up, it’s a really good series and well worth watching; I really do highly recommend it
En resumen, es una serie muy buena y que vale demasiado la pena ver, en serio se las recomiendo mucho
