The truck is down for repairs, so I decided to check out what movies were in theaters while I had time to check one out. I watched a trailer for the movie Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother and thought it looked interesting, then watched some YouTube reviews that were split down the middle between the movie being really good and terrible. There was only one showing left that night and no other movies playing that I'd be able to make it in time to watch, so I ate a French dip sandwich, grabbed a pint of whiskey, and went to the theater, arriving 2 minutes before the previews started.
The movie Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother is about a former hitman who is forced to take on a bigger role with his 3 children after the passing of his wife. He and his wife had been raising his children with strict religious values, but his children are unaware of his work as a hitman to provide for them. The passing of the main character's wife brings along challenges for the father, with the main challenge being securing breast milk for his baby girl, which is one of the main plots of the movie.
In my opinion, the movie concept turned out to be cooler than the movie itself. Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother is an action drama film whose drama could have been a little deeper and could have used more action. None of it was bad, but I felt like they could have given me more than what they were giving me. The actors all did a good job, but I wanted more from the story itself, and more ass-kicking.
I probably would've been able to identify with the main character more if we had a little more in common, but overall I did find myself rooting for the main character, Latif, throughout the film. I felt like the kids in the movie were both funny in their own way and very much gave the movie some innocence and softness that I enjoyed and found funny at times. The main villain in the movie was a super interesting character as well, having some things in common with the protagonist, and fighting for some moral causes although going about it in an extremely violent way.
Before watching Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, I was told this was Mahershala Ali's Blade movie since Blade is being canceled, and that's what I thought Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother would be based on the trailer. I went in expecting a great movie, thinking that some of the negative reviews I saw were just haters, but movie was just extemely mid. Not a bad movie at all, but very mid. I feel like they took a great concept that sounds super interesting and underdelivered on the entertainment elements of drama and action troughout the film. If the movie sounds interesting and you can catch it on streaming later, it might be worth the watch, but I wouldn't recommend paying to watch this one in theaters. There may be some things I missed in the movie that would've made it hit a little deeper, but from where I stand I rate the movie Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother
