One of the things I love about The Pub community over on Discord is that we have a variety of people from a lot of different backgrounds gathering there. It's not always super lively, and if I were a better community leader, I would probably do something to fix that, but we still have some good conversations every now and then.
Usually the way it works, is Marky will throw some funny or mild offensive video or meme into the chat, and that will get people talking about one topic or another. Like the Bro community before it and countless pubs across the world, The Pub is a place where people are free to share their opinions, but they are also subject to the debate, ridicule, or support that comes along with their stated opinion.
Over the years, there is one opinion I have seen several times that I can't help but speak out about. As someone who works in public education, this opinion hits very close to home and I want to sent the record straight about it for everyone to see.
The idea that public schools, and more specifically teachers are teaching kids to be transgender via some kind of woke leftist agenda is absolutely false.
Now, before you start typing up that comment about your brothers cousins golf partner who has a kid at some school who says this happened to them... I'm not saying it doesn't happen in isolated incidents, but just like an isolated incident of aggression between two kids is not bullying, these isolated incidents are not indicative of the system as a whole.
Like I said, I work with these people every single day, they honestly don't have the time to be worrying about pushing some kind of agenda (right or left) on your students. They are just trying to do the best job they can to stay alive (which is sad we have come to this), and make your kid as ready as possible to tackle the real world despite parents desire to be their kids friend and set zero boundaries for them.
Between ridiculous and ever changing expectations from the government which directly impacts their performance reviews and thus their livelihood, and those folks who think it's the teachers job to raise their kid not theirs, we are just doing everything we can to survive here.
Then, imagine being halfway through the school year and the state decides you need to teach math a different way because the old way didn't really work for decades and decades. Or, the government has to balance their budget, so they take the money from the school aid fund that was earmarked for public education and they give 40% of it to colleges and universities (who already charge tuition) and let you know that your state budget allocation is going to drop a bit for the second half of the school year.
To top it off, as I mentioned before, you have to worry about some student, parent, random stranger off the street coming into your building with a gun, knife, or some other weapon and causing a mass casualty event.
That's absolute sarcasm of course, but I understand there might be some isolated incidents here and there. Maybe more in California?, but at least in the state where I work, this stuff that people think is happening just isn't happening. Perhaps it is different in other parts of the world. I've heard people with specific stories that have enough detail I wouldn't dare to tell them they are lying, but as I said, in a broad spectrum sense, it's just not happening bro.
I'm in touch with education professionals from across the state of Michigan and I haven't once heard a sliver of corroboration to those rumors or beliefs.
The cool thing is, after explaining these things in the pub chat, it seemed to open a few eyes about the reality out there, which is why I also wanted to share it with you here as a post.
