Freewill is the ability to make our own decisions and choices without someone else controlling or forcing us. We have freewill, but due to the law and punishment, we have been constrained and cannot really exert that freewill in certain places and situations.
Some people are powerful and have more opportunities to showcase their freewill than others.
A good example happened yesterday. I bought a freezer last month, but it was not working well, so I wanted to return it. I went to the park to look for a vehicle that could carry it, but most of the drivers were giving me excuses. One said his headlight was damaged, another said he doesn't go to that side. One excuse after another, but in the end, we eventually got a driver willing to go. We collected his number, and he promised us we would go as early as possible today.
I waited for his call in the morning, but I never received it, so I called him. His excuse was that his vehicle was overheating. He ruined my plan, and I had to go back to the park again. This time, however, I was lucky. I was introduced to a driver who is the elder brother of the king of Agbara, the road we were about to travel on.
This man did not have his car papers. He only had his driving licence, but he was so confident that nothing was going to happen and that he would take us there. Guess what he did? He took off the plate number that was on his vehicle and put another one that had the name of the king of Agbara. As he said, no one stopped us.
We came across three VIO checkpoints, and we were not stopped, even though one officer tried to stop us. His partner told him something, which I think had something to do with the plate number, and he composed himself immediately. I kind of felt what power was today. The king was not present, yet his name and the things that belonged to him held meaning.
When we try to compare this with freewill, the man was able to exert his freewill because he had someone who could protect him. If everyone had such power, then a lot would go wrong in the country, and no one would obey the law.
When the law does not punish or do its duty, there is bound to be more crime. When crime flourishes in a city or country, it becomes the survival of the fittest, and the weakest will suffer the most.
We have freewill to do certain things as long as they are not things that are prohibited by law.
The law is not stopping us from exerting our freewill; it is just suppressing the beast in us because humans are animals too, and we can act like animals when there is no law and punishment.
