Students who are not studious, who do not show up in class nor take their studies seriously, hate tests and exams.
Why do they hate them? It is because exams force them to read, or they will fail.
One good advantage of exams is how they force everyone to pick up their books. It is during exams that you see students who have never touched their books reading in the middle of the night.
Somehow, I also fall into the category of the unserious student because the only time I start reading is usually about a week before the exam. I make sure to cover most of the syllabus because no one likes failing.
This has been my pattern right from when I was in secondary school. Sometimes, I become lazy and do not read until the night before the exam.
Then we have the worst category: those who do not read at all but instead rely on cheating or disturbing other students in the exam hall.
Now, imagine what student life would be like without exams and tests. There would be more unserious students, and there would be absolutely no reason for some people to pick up their books since there would be no test of what they have learned.
So, I think exams and tests are created for a good reason. They motivate students and also provide a way to know whether what the teachers taught has been understood by their students.
They also motivate studious students by showing them that their hard work is not in vain.
Now, when it comes to the Hive Learner prompt, is an exam really a measure of intelligence, or is it just a test of memory? And why is it important when the application of the knowledge is entirely different?
I have answered the latter at the beginning of this post. As for the former, an exam is a test of memory, but it is also a way to prove that students are following up with what is being taught in school and that the teachings are not in vain. And yes, I also believe it can be a measure of intelligence.
There is always someone who is considered the most intelligent in a class, though that does not necessarily mean that person will be the most intelligent in other places.
I have seen the most intelligent student in my former school join me in a new school and somehow not even make it into the top 10 of the most intelligent students anymore.
This shows that our environment also plays a role. Sometimes, a person's performance is not only about how intelligent they are, but also about the environment they find themselves in, the people around them, and how well they are able to adapt.
