DO YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE OR JUST FOLLOW A ROUTINE? Perhaps in response to this question, someone might say, “It’s the same thing” or “I don’t see a difference,” but when we put it into practice, we realize that the two are further apart than they seem. Even for both, we need something as essential as life itself, but if we’re not careful, life itself can lose its essence—and, as many of us say, “it could even lose its spark or the true variety that allows us to face each day without falling into a kind of cycle or mold that, in the long run, ends up preventing us from experiencing new things.”
There are certainly things in life that seem to demand their place: a cup of coffee, a morning walk, or a moment alone to listen to music or read a little. This routine becomes a healthy habit and gives us a real respite from who we are. These are things you can do day after day and still find something unique and special in them, without ever getting tired of them or even questioning why you set aside part of your time for them. With a routine, you might feel like things are getting a bit repetitive, but if you turn it into a healthy habit, you’ll realize you’ve found a little gift for your physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
It’s amazing how routine can take over your days to the point where you can visualize everything you’ll do from start to finish. Before you’ve even fully woken up, you already have a sort of blueprint in your mind that knows where you’re going and everything you’ll do. I don’t really see any problem with that—until you notice that you’re losing some of your enthusiasm for what you want to do, and all that’s left is trying to get through what you have to do. Little by little, we might lose our sense of innovation and become unable to broaden our perspective enough to consider a scenario different from what we usually do.
For many, the expression “live life” may sound rather flippant, as if all that matters is simply living and not what you actually do with your life. That would be quite irresponsible, and beyond being anything positive, it could also convey a false sense of indifference toward what we are capable of doing. From my point of view, living is so simple that sometimes even the explanations themselves seem to complicate the issue a bit, leading us to debate the ways and means by which we should make the most of our lives. To be sure, it’s best for each of us to be certain that what we do has a purpose and a broad perspective that isn’t confined to a mere cycle of action.
When everything flows in perfect harmony, you realize that you’re not simply living or following a linear path that lacks variety. If you feel that creativity and a positive attitude feed into each other, then you don’t see your life as an endless routine to follow—you have more reasons and motivation to believe that there are still many things waiting for you. Every day brings its own nuances to a particular degree, so there’s no reason to view life from a perspective that’s closed off to the new and the unexpected. How wonderful it is to wake up with a sense of anticipation about what tomorrow will bring, rather than thinking that everything must be exactly the same as what you’ve already experienced. Without a doubt, life gives us ample room to grow and believe that there’s always something new waiting for us.
