Hellooo, friends of the Movies&TV Shows community! I hope you're having a day with lots of sparkles.

I could say I discovered one of my new favorite movies.

You see, I wasn't used to watching cinema, and now that I'm on vacation is when I took the chance to watch some movies. I've always been a fan of the mysterious, of the dark, and I think I discovered my favorite style of movies.

Sleepy Hollow (or The Headless Horseman) is a movie that manages to bring together everything I like: mystery, romance, emotion, melancholy and darkness, a lot of darkness. Directed by Tim Burton in 1999, it is loosely based on “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” by Washington Irving.

I had never seen or read about the headless horseman, other than, well, that he's literally a headless horseman and that's it. But this movie is much more. Here they give us a story, the typical legend about a person who in life was so wicked that he managed to become a kind of demon thirsty for revenge, who will now decapitate people at random, and then they managed to turn that narrative into a very interesting and entertaining mystery. This story is not a generic tale of a headless horseman, but rather it gives us a gothic mystery with investigation, one suspect after another and secrets of a distrustful town. This is where we ask ourselves: why does the horseman kill people?

Ah, but this movie is not ideal if you're looking for horror; rather it's a mix of many things, and that's why I think it's so special. It's gothic mystery, with black humor, romance, a dark aesthetic and a lot, a lot of blood.

About this movie, I don't need to say that I love the scenery, the vibes it transmits to me: gloomy, lugubrious, sad, intriguing, where the sky seems like an eternal dusk, the mists reign and the wind chills you to the bone. A town that hides secrets from us among the black and twisted branches of the forest, under the dampness of a land that hides something chilling. The atmosphere is so interesting that one could even say the town itself is a character, and that's what makes it so captivating, because it's as if the town drags you into the tale.

Anyway, I think the atmosphere is incredible and fascinating.

But another thing I loved was the protagonist (not only because Johnny Depp is very handsome), with an interesting, insightful personality, but who at the same time lacks the typical bravery of a protagonist who seeks to defeat evil. I love that the character is easily frightened and even comical, because this manages to give the movie a slightly warmer breather, without falling into absurdity, but rather it's presented as a natural characteristic of the character. But the strongest point of the character is that he's a totally rational and analytical investigator who clashes head-on with a town dominated by beliefs, although will they be true?

I also like the female lead, Christina Ricci: quiet, angelic, sweet and brave. I think the actress is also very beautiful, and I adored her wardrobe. I think the costumes in this type of movie, although they might not be historically accurate, manage to make me sigh and dream a little. It's simply beautiful.

It's a movie as entertaining as it is visual, where the mystery extends until the end. For me it was not predictable at all and even the blame kept jumping from character to character, about which I'd like to ask you if you guess who the culprit is before the movie ends, hehe.

The only point I didn't like as much is that the romance lacked development, and it's sad because I consider it one of the most important points of the movie, with love even being a driving force. Although it could be that the characters felt that strong connection at first sight, which is beautiful, I think I would have liked to see a little more of the two of them; I think they're an interesting couple.

I recommend this movie to those looking for gothic cinema, nothing more. If you like pure horror, it's not for you, but if you like mystery with a bit of black comedy, then this is definitely your movie, hahaha. What other not-so-well-known Tim Burton movie do you recommend? I want to see more!
