There is something really interesting happening around Grand Theft Auto VI, and it seems Rockstar is willing to do things differently. Not only with the game itself, but also with the way it presents the game, promotes it, and keeps millions of players interested.
The collaboration with Netflix is probably one of the clearest signs that Rockstar is experimenting with new strategies. This comes as GTA 6 gets closer to its release and the excitement surrounding the game continues to grow.

A pretty unusual collaboration
What makes this interesting is that Netflix will have an important role in the next GTA 6 presentation, which is quite unusual for a video game of this size. Normally, we expect a GTA trailer to appear directly on YouTube and Rockstar's official social media accounts.
This time, however, the company is using a streaming platform to turn the presentation into an even bigger event. Personally, I think this shows how much confidence Rockstar has in the project.

Rockstar knows that almost anything related to GTA 6 can quickly become worldwide news. Because of that, it makes sense for the company to experiment with different ways of presenting the game.
Rockstar doesn't really need advertising
GTA 6 is probably one of the most anticipated video games of the last several years, so Rockstar doesn't really need to do much to get our attention. A simple screenshot can generate thousands of comments, and every small detail ends up being analyzed by the community.

That gives Rockstar the perfect opportunity to experiment with new ways of promoting its games. They don't need to convince players that GTA 6 exists, because practically everyone is already waiting for new information.
A different strategy can achieve the same result as a massive advertising campaign while creating even more discussion among players.
Netflix also benefits
From Netflix's perspective, this collaboration also makes a lot of sense. The platform has been trying to increase its presence in the gaming world, and GTA 6 can give it an enormous amount of attention.
Having content connected to such an important franchise allows Netflix to become part of a conversation normally dominated by YouTube, Twitch, and other platforms.

The company also gets to associate itself with one of the biggest releases of the year, while Rockstar gets another tool to promote its game.
What does testing new things actually mean?
This is the part I find most interesting. When Rockstar talks about experimenting, it doesn't necessarily mean GTA 6 will have a completely revolutionary mechanic that we don't know about yet.
It could also mean experimenting with the way the game is presented, promoted, and used to keep the community interested during the months leading up to release.

Rockstar knows players are watching absolutely everything. A screenshot, a short video, or even a single comment can generate theories for days.
That's why I think we could see more unusual strategies before GTA 6 finally launches. The game is popular enough to allow Rockstar to experiment without taking too much of a risk.
And honestly, I think that's a good thing. After waiting so many years, anything that gives us something new to discover about GTA 6 is going to create a huge conversation.
Maybe Netflix is only the first step in a much bigger strategy.
