A Tough Week Ahead And Looking Forward To What It Might Bring

source

For Some Reason I Am Always Chasing My Tail

This week things are rather hectic trying to squeeze in as much work as possible with the only problem being time. When we had the lockdowns back in 2020 we had too much time and vowed there and then to never waste time ever again.

Working for yourself you are in charge of achieving targets and planning accordingly so those targets are achieved which is easier said than done. When I was working for a company you had targets laid out and these were often achieved with time to spare. I can recall other work colleagues saying to slow down otherwise the expectations would increase which would result in the work load increasing. Just a very different mindset and a hard one to adjust yet that is corporate life in a nut shell.

Sometimes I wonder if my own expectations are too high but then again how else are you going to achieve your targets unless you push yourself. Work smarter and not harder is a phrase you often here yet if you plan and organize your life correctly there is little else you can do to improve the outcome.

Patience plays n important role in all of this knowing when to push or hold back. One client I have purposely delayed for 3 months as the time was not correct and this morning confirmed for Wednesday afternoon. If I had phoned last week this would not have happened as this was month end so timing is crucial knowing how to play this game of landing new clients and each client is different in the tactics used. The majority are straight forward which is a blessing with only the bigger clients being more elusive. We had one operations manager resign from a prospective client and we have them lined up this week with the new manager a really fun laid back chap. I will still pursue and follow up where the previous operations manager has moved to as this is another opportunity to be explored.

Over the years I have learned to rather have too much planned mainly as appointments can be cancelled and rescheduled which they often are leaving you with down time. This week there are 16 appointments scheduled and expect by Friday to have seen 12 people with the other 4 being rescheduled for next week. Things happen and these are external influences you cannot control as you are always reliant on others to help achieve your goals. Having such a full week booked in advance is rare as a week is often spent trying to get appointments and not spending the whole week actually carrying them out.

I think I would go nuts if I was still working in the corporate world because in many ways it is brain dead besides all the red tape. Many who work in this type of environment are just going through the motions and is seen as just a job that pays the bills. Very depressing and why I really appreciate working for myself as it is actually enjoyable which helps you be excited for each new day as each day is very different.

Visiting people and seeing where they work understanding that business is for me good fun and is a constant eye opener because no business is the same. I think you are always going to first spot the obvious problems when viewing these types of logistical/manufacturing operations whilst looking for the positives. The brain is wired to look for red flags mainly as one large client can put you out of business due to non payments so you have to be fully aware.

The 2020 lockdown vow to never waste time again clearly still drives the schedule, even when the week gets hectic.

  • The Corporate World can be limiting, and I think even more harrowing is the fact that one could be laid off at anytime without notice and have nothing to fall back on. That's why even though I don't think I'd be good in business, I do try to upgrade my skillset whenever I can. The World is just too unpredictable
