It is time to sleep, and every inhabitant of these lands is extinguishing their candles and retiring for the night, ready to resume the tasks that keep us productive. The night is truly starry and the moon is full, yet strangely, the air is cold; amidst the nocturnal darkness of this place, fireflies are visible everywhere. From my window, I have a beautiful view of the fire-training grounds, where torches have remained lit since training first began in the era of Ineyashami.

As I gaze at the moonlight streaming through the window, I immediately notice a flickering green light; looking out, I see that the forest archway has been activated. I quickly grab only my bow and arrows and head out, seeing no guards nearby.

It surprises me that this archway is active at such an early hour, and even more so that it is daylight on the Unknown Paths. Stranger still, however, is the silhouette visible through the mist of this enchanted forest; though it appeared close by, its aura inspired a sense of trust. The figure took a few steps toward me and—as if already knowing me—called out, beckoning me to approach; I took the few remaining steps to enter. Once inside, I turned to find the archway deactivated. I moved closer to the unknown figure and, upon making out his features, realized he was a Fey. He introduced himself as Khan Feywest, explaining that he had been wandering the Unknown Paths when he sensed traces of rifts in the portal, prompting him to open it.

I won't deny that I initially found it curious he mentioned the rifts—a matter I thought settled—but then he declared that he had drawn me here because I was the danger. That put me on guard; although his aura wasn't evil, I quickly fired an arrow at him. He blocked it with a strange, invisible golden shield that momentarily stunned me. Feeling somewhat sluggish, I watched as he struck the ground twice with his forelegs; before I knew it, he had darted behind me and knocked me down using magic.

He told me that, due to the rifts, I harbored a fragment of them—a part that had bypassed my elven defenses and been feeding silently; it instantly cast darkness over my dream, causing dark creatures that had been hiding within me to emerge. Khan attacked swiftly, leaving me confused as to how to strike at something that existed in my mind—and was, moreover, concealed deep inside me.

The strange atmosphere I had sensed was merely a reflection of that dream world bleeding into reality. I gazed at the protective necklace resting on my chest and understood that, even though it had been only a dream, it had left a clear warning: the fissures within me still remained.
