While browsing the trending page earlier, I came across a blog post about a new Hive app called XPLpic. Naturally, I became curious about what kind of app was being introduced to the platform, so I decided to check it out myself.
It turns out that XPLpic is a photo-sharing platform, and probably the first thing that caught my attention was its simplicity.
I actually tried uploading my first photo just now, and I have to say that the whole experience felt refreshing. It somehow reminded me of the old Instagram, back when photo sharing was simply about uploading a picture, adding a short description, and enjoying what other people were sharing.
But of course, there’s one major difference here...
XPLpic is built around Hive.
That alone makes the experience much more interesting to me because the content we share becomes part of the Hive ecosystem.
My First XPLpic Achievement
Before talking about the uploading process, there’s something funny and exciting that I noticed after publishing my first photo.
Based on what I could see on the map, my Marina Bay Sands photo appeared to be the only uploaded photo around Asia at that moment, and definitely the first one I could see from Singapore.
So technically, I might be one of XPLpic’s earliest photographers from this part of the world. 😄
I know it might sound like a small achievement right now, but imagine if XPLpic eventually becomes a huge photography platform. Years from now, I could look back and say that I was already uploading photos from Singapore while the platform was still in its early days.
That would be pretty cool, especially knowing that my activity is connected to Hive and recorded as part of my blockchain journey.
The Simplicity Is What Makes It Great
After logging in using Hive Keychain, everything felt surprisingly familiar.
The main interface is basically a huge interactive world map filled with photos uploaded from different places. At the bottom, you can browse recently added photographs, click one that catches your attention, and immediately discover where it was taken.
I found myself enjoying the experience even before uploading anything.
It feels relaxing just browsing photographs from different countries and discovering places that I may never have heard of before.
Uploading a photo is equally simple.
You click “+ Add photo,” select your image, and XPLpic can detect information such as when the photo was taken. You can still change the date if necessary.
After that, you can add a title and write something about the photograph.
What I particularly like is that these fields don’t make the experience feel demanding.
Not everyone wants to write an entire travel blog just because they took a beautiful photo.
Sometimes we simply want to say:
“Look at this amazing place!”
And that should already be enough.
After all, there’s a reason people say that a picture is worth a thousand words.
This Could Be Great for Hive
I can honestly see XPLpic becoming more than just another Hive dApp.
Photography is universal. You don’t need to understand cryptocurrency, DeFi, staking, Resource Credits, or complicated blockchain concepts to appreciate a beautiful photograph.
You simply open the app, explore the map, click photographs, and discover the world.
That kind of simplicity is exactly what I believe Hive needs more of.
An app like XPLpic could potentially become an entry point for photographers and ordinary social media users who may initially have no interest in blockchain at all. They might join because they enjoy photography, and only later discover that there’s an entire Hive ecosystem behind the application.
That, in my opinion, is how Web3 applications should work.
The blockchain shouldn’t always be the first thing users have to understand. Sometimes, we simply need to give them an enjoyable application and allow them to discover everything else naturally.
My first experience with XPLpic was smooth, simple, and genuinely enjoyable.
It feels like a breath of fresh air for Hive, and I’m excited to see more photographers pin their own little pieces of the world onto this growing map.
