The Real Value of Hive Goes Beyond the Price

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about where Hive is heading, and despite everything happening with the price of the token, I honestly believe that we, as a community, are moving in the right direction.

Of course, I won’t pretend that I’m happy about the price of Hive. Seeing the coin continue to struggle is disappointing, especially when we know how much development, effort, and passion are being poured into this ecosystem. Sometimes it feels frustrating because there’s only so much we can do about the market.

But over the past few days, I realized something.

Maybe this is also part of the price we pay for the freedom we’ve been asking for ever since this blockchain began.

We wanted decentralization. We wanted independence. We wanted a platform that wasn’t controlled by a corporation deciding what should happen next.

Well… this is what that freedom looks like.

There is no company that can simply pump millions into marketing whenever the token struggles. There is no CEO who can announce something dramatic just to create hype. There is no central authority capable of controlling the market value of Hive.

And honestly, I think that freedom is more valuable than temporary richness.

Looking Beyond the Rewards

Don’t get me wrong, rewards are important.

Rewards are one of the things that make Hive special, and they provide motivation for creators, curators, developers, and many other people contributing to the ecosystem.

However, if rewards are the only reason we are here, then I think we might be missing one of the biggest things Hive has given us.

For me, one of the greatest benefits of this blockchain is simple:

I can share my thoughts freely, and what I publish truly belongs to me.

Every post I publish becomes part of the blockchain under my account. It becomes part of my journey here. There isn’t a centralized social media company sitting above me deciding that my years of content can suddenly disappear because of an algorithm change or account suspension.

That feeling of ownership is something I’ve learned to appreciate more as the years pass.

The Connections Are Real

Another thing Hive has given me is something that I probably wouldn’t have experienced the same way elsewhere: genuine connections with people from different parts of the world.

Yes, mainstream social media can connect billions of people.

But somehow, my experience on Hive feels different.

I’ve met people simply by reading their posts, leaving comments, responding to comments on my own blogs, and eventually seeing the same usernames again and again.

Over time, those usernames stop feeling like random accounts.

They become familiar people.

Some even become genuine friends.

And I think that’s one of Hive’s strongest qualities.

The experience doesn’t feel overly polished, manufactured, or fake. People share victories, frustrations, random daily moments, ideas, hobbies, struggles, and opinions. We don’t always agree with each other either, which actually makes the experience feel even more human.

We Are the Ones Driving Hive

Perhaps the biggest reason Hive feels different is that there really isn’t anyone else coming to save or build this platform for us.

We are the platform.

The developers building applications are Hive users.

The witnesses maintaining the blockchain are members of the community.

The bloggers creating content are the community.

The curators distributing rewards are the community.

The people commenting, onboarding newcomers, promoting Hive outside the ecosystem, playing Hive games, and experimenting with new ideas are all contributing to the same journey.

That’s powerful when you think about it.

Hive may be much smaller than mainstream social networks and even smaller than many crypto projects, but I believe what we have here is difficult to manufacture: a group of people who genuinely want the ecosystem to succeed.

And that’s why I don’t think Hive’s value should ever be measured purely by the price of $HIVE.

Price matters, but it’s only one measurement.

The community, freedom, ownership, friendships, development, and opportunities available here are another form of value altogether.

There may come a day when the financial rewards become much greater again, and I certainly hope that happens.

But even before that day arrives, Hive is already giving us something worth protecting: a decentralized place where we can create, connect, build, and own our presence online.

That, for me, is the direction we were always meant to take.

Hive on!

Very interesting read. I think I’m slowly coming to the same conclusion: the price of HIVE is only one part of the story. The more interesting question for me is what value Hive has beyond the token – and what of that value is worth preserving and contributing to. I’m still figuring that part out. 🙂

I would always say, the real value of Hive is on the preservation of your ideas and plans and posts. That's why original posts, such as your shower dreams or your original discoveries have a value to you to have them printed on the blockchain. It will forever be preserved and documenting your thoughts is one of the biggest assets you can have.
