Scams and the Need to Be Careful

Scamming activities are rampant today, and scammers are everywhere. Once upon a time, it wasn't like this, even though scams still existed. You can say that the rise of the online world and digital systems of doing things which were meant to bring ease, and rightly do so has contributed to the surge in scamming activities that we see happening. People have even become doubtful of opportunities because of the existence of various scams.

While some patterns have been identified, recognised and publicised, new ones keep emerging and more people keep falling for these scams. It's sad to see that people still fall for the scams and patterns that have been recognised and warned against. But it's also good to see that many people have recognised some of them and aren't falling for them. Seeing this shows that people aren't really naive or oblivious to these scammers and their activities.

Identifying these scams protects not just the person, but others as well. I remember seeing a ridiculous one recently in a comment section on YouTube. But as ridiculous as it may sound or look, people could fall for it. Thankfully, users who identified the scam called out the user and their intended scam, thereby informing others, which some would go on to appreciate that it was called out because they were uncertain about it and wondering if true.

On the blockchain here, I've read of some scams too. It goes to show that this is something that happens everywhere and can happen anywhere. It's sad to see people plan and cook up deceitful schemes to scam others. As mentioned, scams are rampant, in the modern world especially. But an overwhelming level of these activities comes from and happens within parts of the world that aren't really developed, and where people are struggling to live.

It's not a yardstick for carrying out scams. I've heard of people who were managing life; doing their bid to survive and provide for their needs and families get scammed of what they struggled to make, causing a lasting pain in many. Whatever the case it is, scams shouldn't be excused. It's more saddening to realise that there's a corporate form of scam that exists. One that seems to be above the law and can't be arraigned or confronted.

The occurrence of scams in different forms and patterns through time; physically to online which existed and are still happening in various ways have made it that most humans have encountered one scam or another, with some falling victims, leaving painful experiences and lessons as well. While it seems like these scams have focused on the online space, they happen physically. Like a case of a man who was scammed of millions he spent on a land purchase.

Through the years, several scams, especially Ponzi schemes, have happened and affected many in my country. There was the worldwide MMM scam some years back, FF Investment, among others. And the most recent one was NRC some months back. I remember suffering from a Ponzi scheme that wasn't really a big one. Though I got some returns, you can't deny how it hurts when that happens, especially when the funds were so needed.

It's sad to see someone losing their hard worked money. And new methods keep showing up also, sometimes these things look completely believable until it's too late. Even when we know about scams, we can still get caught by one 🤦🏻‍♀️
