One of the questions that people tend to have about themselves in life is that of purpose. It may not be directly in the sense of “what's my purpose in life?” Even though it still hangs on this very question, many have found themselves asking and seeking this answer. The other way this question comes is in this way, “what am I here for?” That goes back to the question and the quest to answer the big WHY.
It's quite interesting that this simple-looking question comes with different answers, sometimes born from different ideologies people hold, especially in our world today. People have tried to answer this question. It comes early for some and later in life for others. But in one way or another, we're confronted with the question and faced with the responsibility of answering it. And you can say it's one of the most difficult questions of a person's life.
This is because it's deep and doesn't come with a simple answer. You begin to ask, why do you even wake up every day to work and do the things you do in life? Trying to answer this question leaves a person sometimes asking further if the labour to make money and a good life is all worth it. That itself opens up the depth of purpose. If the quest to achieve these things we labour and seek is questioned by the fact that we can exit this earth and leave them, it means there's more to life.
There's something more that makes life worth living without that concern about why we wake up and labour every day, because in that we find satisfaction and fulfilment. Can money, fame and power be that? I don't think so, because if any or all of these and the like were, then there won't be the question about why gathering all only to leave them behind in a tomorrow that's not certain. It begs for something more, and that thing is purpose. That's the answer to it.
Books have been written, seminars and events organised, all geared towards helping people recognise their purpose. These efforts have helped many to navigate the question of purpose; what they're here on earth for, or the big WHY as it may be addressed. Once again, reaffirming the importance of this timeless question. As we see a world heavily driven by money, fame, power and the like, it makes this question all the more important and necessary.
I don't imagine being created and born into this life to just wake up every day and strive for survival as the purpose of life. Not the money we seek and desire or other things of mundane value. This is where purpose counts; serving God and serving humanity, while trying to make the world a better place and better lives for ourselves. It goes beyond the things we do for ourselves and to that which glorifies and honours God, and impacts others in a good way.
