It's no news that the labour market is saturated. This is a reality in various countries and several parts of the world. This has resulted in the outcry of many people today; the unavailability or shortage of job opportunities. Thankfully, technology came in and opened up new opportunities, while also changing the landscape of work and labour. It's one of the things we're grateful for in this modern world and time.
Work used to be solely done in offices and direct physical spaces. With technological efforts and tools, a new system of remote work came into place, bringing about a new kind of opportunity that today is beneficial to a lot of people. It made working from home a thing, something that was probably not considered because work was known to be onsite, physically and in offices, as the case may be.
With the understanding and realisation of the benefits and opportunities this holds, a large number of people sought remote work, with many still seeking it today. There's more flexibility, control of one's time and space, more economical, and the ease of not constantly taking transportation to work. You can say that's a blessing to our world. However, it raises concerns about how this will affect the corporate and onsite system of work that has existed.
With many people opting for the opportunity to work from home, it draws a consideration about the future of onsite works. What will happen to it in the long run? What will become of those who actually prefer to leave their homes to go to their offices and places of work? This might be a concern, but I find it quite funny that people could think onsite work could somehow face some major issues. Except that it's not a really fancied option today.
Let's say, issues like people not considering and taking such jobs again or it becoming obsolete, that won't happen. You know, one of those things sold to people using the opportunities technology has brought is in a way, demeaning the traditional system of work. The 9 to 5 works are now shamed and made to look like nothing at all and we forget that some lucrative jobs are actually from that system. It's not just about the system of work then.
It's not like remote work is easy to get and to do. They're not. It's what people usually fail to tell. Remote work is wonderful and beneficial. They have helped many gain a means of livelihood that they enjoy and can do comfortably. But that can't erase onsite work because there are people who actually enjoy going to their offices and physical places of work. They enjoy the company of people and the lively atmosphere that comes with it.
Some jobs are those that can't be done from home, like doctors and nurses working on patients, contractors working on sites, farmers working on their farms and more. No matter how beneficial remote work is, working onsite is preferred by some organisations and is actually what some need. Remote work won't eliminate onsite work. It might just open up opportunities for those interested in onsite work when only a few people consider and apply for them.
