Las presentaciones fueron avanzando poco a poco y allí estaba Charlie, Lucas y Sofía observaban a los demás participantes, donde sus presentaciones fueron de mucho nivel, otras con aplausos, sin embargo, la tranquilidad comenzó a desaparecer, puesto que avanzar a la siguiente ronda no parecía nada fácil. Charlie permanecía sentado con su banjo entre las manos y en voz baja preguntó —¿Creen que lo logramos?— Lucas nada más lo miro y Sofía asintió, pero ella estaba segura de que dieron lo mejor.
The performances went on one by one, and there were Charlie, Lucas, and Sofía, watching the other contestants. Some of their performances were top-notch, and others were met with applause; however, their sense of calm began to fade, since advancing to the next round didn’t seem easy at all. Charlie sat there with his banjo in his hands and asked in a low voice, “Do you think we’ll make it?” Lucas just looked at him, and Sofía nodded, though she was sure they’d given it their all.
Luego de espera varias horas de presentación, los organizadores le pidieron a todos participantes que regresaran al escenario, todos estaban muy felices, pero a la vez nerviosos porque era momento de conocer su destino. Charlie miró a sus amigos, la publicó y Justo en ese momento uno de los jurados tomó el micrófono y dijo —Quiero felicitar a todos, puesto que en esta ronda vimos talento, dedicación, nervios, errores, sorpresas. Sin embargo, solo treinta de ustedes continuarán— Charlie se asustó, Lucas respiró profundamente y Sofía juntó sus manos frente a ella.
El jurado comenzó a mencionar los nombres, donde cada joven que iba clasificando celebraba ese gran triunfo, donde pasaron los primeros veinte participaciones y ninguno de ellos eran el número de los tres niños. Charlie apretó con fuerza su banjo, ya que solamente quedaban dos lugares, donde el puesto 29 fue de una pequeña niña y el puesto 30 fue para los tres niños, la cual ninguno de ellos lo podía creer y durante unos segundos ninguno reaccionó, luego los tres se abrazaron.
After several hours of waiting for the results, the organizers asked all the participants to return to the stage. Everyone was very happy, but also nervous because it was time to find out their fate. Charlie looked at his friends; she posted it, and just then one of the judges took the microphone and said, “I want to congratulate everyone, because in this round we saw talent, dedication, nerves, mistakes, and surprises. However, only thirty of you will move on.” Charlie panicked, Lucas took a deep breath, and Sofía clasped her hands in front of her.
The judge began calling out the names, and each young person who made the cut celebrated that great triumph. The first twenty spots were announced, and none of them belonged to the three children. Charlie clutched his banjo tightly, as only two spots remained; the 29th spot went to a little girl, and the 30th spot went to the three boys, none of whom could believe it. For a few seconds, none of them reacted, but then the three of them hugged each other.
El público comenzó a aplaudir y algunos de los participantes que estaban cerca también los felicitaron, donde Charlie no podía dejar de sonreír, Lucas golpeó suavemente el hombro de su amigo y Sofía sabía que lo lograrían. El jurado volvió a hablar y comentó —Felicidades, ustedes son los treinta participantes que continuarán en esta competencia, pero quiero decirle que esta siguiente ronda será muy distinta, habrá escenario diferente y tendrán nuevos desafíos— Charlie se quedó mirando, ya que ahora los participantes podrán regresar a casa, descansar y prepararse. Al salir de ese lugar, estaban contentos, ya que habían clasificado, ya no tenían que esperar y ya no tenían que preguntarse si habían avanzado, donde ahora tenían que prepararse para el nuevo desafío.
The audience began to applaud, and some of the participants standing nearby congratulated them as well. Charlie couldn’t stop smiling; Lucas gently patted his friend on the shoulder, and Sofía knew they would make it. The judge spoke again and said, “Congratulations—you are the thirty contestants who will continue in this competition, but I want to tell you that the next round will be very different; there will be a different stage, and you’ll face new challenges.” Charlie stared in silence, realizing that now the contestants could go home, rest, and prepare. As they left the venue, they were happy—they had qualified, so they no longer had to wait or wonder if they’d advanced. Now they just had to prepare for the new challenge.
