Hive Rebranding Discussion at Hivefest

While at #Hivefest, @walterjay and I raised the issue of the Hive discover-ability problem, and a possible Hive rebrand.

The topic was discussed a number of times, and we think it is something worth bringing to the fore again. We've created a Telegram group so that we try and workshop this out - what would be involved in a rebrand and what it should look like, how to go about getting consensus of the community etc.

I know a number of you are interested in this topic, please if you want to be added to the group, reach out to me or @walterjay on Telegram or Discord and we can add you.

Tagging a few parties whom I think might be interested:

@erikah, @elmerlin, @stayoutoftherz, @deanliu

    The discoverability problem is real and underrated — "Hive" collides with everything from hive-mind marketing copy to actual beehive products, which means organic search is actively working against the project instead of for it, no matter how good the tech underneath is. That's a genuinely different problem from "the product isn't good enough," and it needs a different fix.

    One thing worth weighing carefully in the workshop: whatever the new name is has to survive translation and pronunciation across every major market Hive wants to grow in, not just read well in English. A name that's clean in English but awkward or already-taken elsewhere just relocates the discoverability problem instead of solving it.

    You cannot suggest a rebrand of a word thats increadibly easy to remember and is only 4 letters and then propose Quicxitoxics as the new name.

    A word no one will remember, and no one will know how to spell. It kind of tells me all I need to know about this rebrand push.

    There is benefit in Hive being called Hive. Its increadibly easy to remember.

    Also for everyone the discussions at hivefest were really brief on the topic, nothing is being decided offline, it is about talking with people and trying to see who wants to work on the issue and formulate a public proposal for a change. Just a few community members talking to each other.

    I support the idea. I hope we will move forward with it.

    That's some good discussion on Hive rebranding and indeed that alone could boost the visibility of the platform. But above all, in my opinion, are the apps built here that ultimately drive the action. Thus we need more developments which truly bring users to this ecosystem through their web3 utility and more.

    It's good that people are having these discussions. Other projects and chains have rebranded so it is possible. What we need is for things to be discoverable and the Hive name is just too generic. It has to be combined with marketing so that people know we even exit.

    Hope you had a great time in Barcelona.

    Rebranding is all well and good. But keep in mind that if you search for Ecency or Peakd, the search results look a bit different than if someone googles Hive. It's worth remembering that renaming the tokens and coins would bring us right back to where we started! We already have some very good frontends based on Hive. That should really be given more attention! Then Hive will naturally follow suit! If the rebranding solves many old problems, then I'm all for it! I'm certainly curious to see what comes out of your discussions. Unfortunately, what happened at the Hivefest remains a secret... ( No posts, no Video ...)

    Cheers 🤠
