The Cord has Snapped!

It has been coming for a while now. Players can only take in their stride, what seems to be unfulfilled promises from the management, for so long. The frustration was bound to hit the ceiling, and it has.

Lisandro Martinez just let the cat out of the bag after losing to Atletico Madrid. The irony was that the team was a little better than what they had shown in the Premier League. But the same problems were there to see. Lethargic football, weak duels, and simply no threat in the opposition's box.

Clearly there was something wrong with the mentality of the players and today we found out what it was. Lisandro declared his dissatisfaction at the poor business that United did in the summer. It was clear to everyone that we were desperate for defensive reinforcement, but the management seemed more interested in penny pinching.

We needed a left back desperately in the summer. Instead we had to line up without a recognized LB against Atletico because both Shaw and Dorgu are injured. It is no surprise that the players are so dissolutioned, Bruno especially.

The next few weeks are looking bleak. Where do we go from here now?

  • Far be it from me to defend United’s hierarchy but I think it’s out of order to come out and say that in a post match interview and certainly doesn’t help the cause which is what the players should be mainly concerned about rather than covering their own arses after another poor display.

These Director of Football types almost certainly should be held more accountable for what they do or don’t do and maybe they should even front up to the cameras once in a while. However, if Jason Wilcox rocked up at the post-match interview on Saturday and basically said he’d done his job and we’d have 3 points now if Martinez didn’t defend like Sleepy the Dwarf trying to mark Snow White during a kick about in the enchanted forest then the player(s) would be up in arms and rightly so, not to mention that it’d be counterproductive to call out your colleagues in that manner on international TV.

Beyond the quality of the squad, it’s the toxic atmosphere at United which always pulls you back into these situations.
