After several unsuccessful trips to the forest to gather mushrooms, I am finally satisfied today. You see, there was a drought this year, and there were no mushrooms. But there was rain in September, and now my basket is full.
There were plenty of Boletus mushrooms. I picked them and cleaned off the dirt, as I like them to be clean so my wife doesn't have too much extra work. I found them very quickly, right after entering the forest near the house.
I have come across several varieties of this mushroom, but they are all edible. I love its taste and prepare it in various ways: I make soups and stews, and I dry them to create seasonings that I add to almost every dish.
I ventured a little deeper into the woods and emerged onto a meadow, heading towards the pine forest, where I found a mushroom I hadn't seen in years.
It is the Larch Bolete (also known as the Greville's Bolete). Its Latin name is Suillus grevillei.I will try to describe it to you, in case you come across it too. It is orange to golden-yellow in color, with a smooth surface that becomes distinctly slimy and sticky to the touch (especially in damp weather).I will try to describe it to you, in case you come across it. It ranges in color from orange to golden-yellow, with a smooth surface that becomes distinctly slimy and sticky to the touch (especially in wet weather). The stem is yellowish with reddish-brown spots. A pale ring is clearly visible on the upper part of the stem.
This mushroom is also very delicious; one thing you should know is that the skin must be peeled off the cap. I preserve this mushroom in jars for the winter, and it makes an excellent seasoning when dried.
On my way home along a stream, I found a Chicken of the Woods mushroom—it was the icing on the cake, haha. The mushroom was young and looked excellent; I love frying it coated in flour and egg.
I returned home satisfied. In a few days, I’ll go pick them again. When I pick mushrooms, I always try to leave a few behind so there will be some for next time.
Thank you for reading my post.
