My opinion on Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas
Hello friends of #scrobble.life. The weekend, once we’ve finished our adult responsibilities, is the perfect time to watch series and movies. It turns out I was sick on Thursday and Friday, but since I had improved by Saturday, I told my wife I wanted to watch something with fiction, action, war, or horror. However, she already had other plans for this weekend. An animated DreamWorks classic with a script and jokes FOR ADULTS. That’s how I ended up enjoying (for the third time, haha) the movie Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas.
Directed by Tim Johnson and Patrick Gilmore, it is an animated adventure that combines action, mythology, and family humor, which makes it an entertaining movie, although it has some weak points that keep it from reaching its highest quality.
Key characters
· Sinbad is not the usual hero, but a selfish rogue who evolves thanks to love and friendship.
· Proteus: Sinbad’s childhood friend, who gives himself up because he trusts his friend.
· Marina becomes an active co-protagonist: she sails, gives her opinion, and makes decisions, which balances the group dynamic.
· Eris, the goddess of chaos, is an elegant and charismatic villain; her visual and movement design conveys power and seduction.
Review
I’ll list it to highlight what I noticed:
- The film has a technical problem that weighs down its visual identity: the combination of hand-drawn characters with 3D-rendered backgrounds and creatures. That mix creates a feeling of overlapping worlds that don’t fit together.
- The secondary characters were underused.
- The script is predictable and linear, with development that doesn’t produce key or unique lines by which the movie is remembered.
- The cultural disconnect also deserves mention: by moving the legend of Arab origin to a Greco-Roman context, the opportunity to faithfully represent the identity of the original story was wasted.
- Marina’s character goes from being Proteus’s fiancée to Sinbad’s girlfriend (which feels out of place).
- They handled the characters’ action very well; the fight scenes were fluid and well produced.
The film really is entertaining, but it doesn’t rise to greatness like other DreamWorks titles themselves (even though it has potential). It is a movie to enjoy with the family, but it doesn’t leave a deep mark like other renowned works.

Hola amigos de #scrobble.life.
