Greenhouse tomatoes 🍅. We had quite a tomato harvest this year. We preserved some of them; I love canned tomatoes—they’re delicious. We also made tomato juice. I love eating fried potatoes and washing them down with tomato juice. It’s delicious and has a real home-cooked feel. Growing tomatoes isn't easy; they require a lot of care. We used to grow them right out in the open garden, without staking or covering them. But they didn't thrive as well as the ones that are staked and grown under plastic sheeting. We use the plastic cover to shield them from direct sunlight and to help them ripen faster, since it’s warmer underneath. It also allows us to plant them earlier than we could in the open air. I love fresh tomatoes, too. Right now, while they’re still in season, I eat them every day. The fiber is good for your health. Summer is a great time to diet because you can fill half your plate with vegetables; you feel fuller and eat less unhealthy food. We planted the tomatoes in the spring, when it was still cool outside, and then tended to them. They need plenty of water—about once or twice a week—and special fertilizer. We also weed the area. To get larger tomatoes, we prune off excess shoots and remove the lower leaves where there is no longer any fruit. To be honest, caring for them is hard work, but it’s worth it. After all, tomatoes are delicious and can be used to make so many different dishes. Tomatoes can be added to the base for borscht or to various types of zucchini or eggplant spreads; a simple tomato salad is also delicious—for example, cucumber, tomato, dill, and onion dressed with sunflower oil and a pinch of salt. It is a very light, fresh salad that is suitable for a diet. All plants require care, and in return, they will delight you with their produce.
