Hello, friends on Hive and the Fascinating Insects community.
Hola amigos de Hive y comunidad de Fascinatinginsects.
This is not the first time I have encountered this species of butterfly.
I've seen it several times on the ceiling. Walls, door frames and, more rarely, in dimly lit places in the courtyard.
This time I saw it in the morning trying to fly out of a living room window after having spent the night inside the house.
Thinking that maybe it was flying away from one of the cats 🐱 I tried to help it get out by moving the curtain.
Instead of flying off, it climbed onto my hand and stayed there until I took it near a cariaquito bush. From there it flew away and disappeared.
It is a butterfly of the family Nymphalidae, genus Taygetis. They are also called Satires or browns.
It is medium-sized, that is, about 3 centimeters in wingspan, completely brown on the back with lines and spots, also brown, delimiting violet, bluish, and yellow areas and edges.
The way the hues shift as the angle of the light hitting its wings changes is extraordinary. In dimmer areas, they appear violet if I use the flash.
