Dedicated Spaces for Creativity

Dedicated Spaces for Creativity

A recent article by Peter Shankman has made me rethink how I work and how I create as it relates to the spaces I do those things in. This isn't a new concept. I've heard about not being creative in the space where you answer emails and hold meetings. That creativity needs a space away from the busyness of work.

This has me wondering if perhaps the reason some of my personal creative projects have not seen the light of day is because I am trying to do it in the same place I am working on client projects. Hmm.....

Here is the article I was referring to: https://petershankmanofficial.substack.com/p/the-real-cost-of-a-distraction

The idea that client-project rooms quietly smother personal projects rings true, since the mind never fully leaves work mode in a space it associates with deadlines.

  • Doing creative work in the same chair as client work really does flatten both, the Shankman piece makes a strong case for a separate corner of the room.
