This Is Really Bad

Last week I read a post about Hive, about the good things, the bad things and about where we are today. I don't think I have to explicitly spell it out for you where we are, it should be obvious. A good part of the users are still dreaming of new all time highs and imagining $HIVE shooting to $10 or better to $20. Yes, I get it, hope dies last, but after so many years, if you have half a brain, you know we have to do something if we want a future for the chain and that something is not just talking.

Even though my time to spend on Hive is limited and it's going to be even more limited in the upcoming future, I've been thinking of what I can do to help. I'm not a dev, not a witness either, can't build anything (on Hive), so what I thought I could do is help promote Hive on X, if anyone is interested.

Today I dusted down my old X account that is linked to Hive and though I'd post a chart as we have a nice swing failure pattern on the h4 time frame. I meant it as a test, or a post to break the ice. Then I thought let's check what I find if I click the token's ticker, which is $HIVE and that's where I got confirmation of what we've always known.

The good thing is, for some reason X is displaying our token's chart on top, but maybe for me and others might get a different outcome.

X is listing my post on top, but let's not get drunk with cold water. It is because that's what the algo does, not because it has the highest traffic. (After 3 hours my post got 36 views and I bet 99% by mistake as people were looking for a different $HIVE token.)

It's really sad and frustrating to see we have no identity, so to speak, or we're sharing the name of the token with other projects.

A few years ago, we had a huge spike to the upside in a very short time. When I say huge, I mean really huge as someone bought a bunch of $HIVE, worth 283 $BTC (or was it 238?), by mistake. They wanted to invest in another $HIVE token and mistakenly bought our $HIVE. Needless to say the whole quantity was dumped right away and price went back to the same level the spike started at.

Today I had to scroll through the posts on X and read each one carefully to see if it is about our token, or another and most were not about our token. This is not only time consuming, but frustrating as well as it is like trying to find a needle in a haystack but what is more painful is that this is only going to get worse.

@demotruk had a proposal of rebranding, which was good to generate some discussions, but failed to get funded. This means problem solved for those who would be doing the rebranding, no headache, no funds spent (or wasted), but the problem of visibility is still there, unsolved and it is working against us as sure as hell it is not helping us.

Would a rebranding make $HIVE blow off the roof? Nope, it won't as without fixing what is broken, would only be like repainting a car while the engine is in a 1000 pieces, so more is needed here.

After more than eight years on the chain, I've seen and experienced quite a lot and would be really stupid to think $BTC going to $150k or whatever level people think it's going to hit, will drag $HIVE to $10 or whatever delusional number people think the toke is going to reach.

The question is, what's the plan? What are we going to do to get the platform out of this shite?

Demotruk's post attracted a lot of comments, accusations were flying, people got blamed left and right. Yes, we had a bunch of funds allocated to really stupid projects, some people filled their pockets and so on. We can go through those again, continue accusing people, but that won't solve the problem, unless those funds spent stupidly are repaid and put to good use, which is never going to happen.

So the question is, what are we going to do?

    I support whatever endeavors to discuss/take action about community's future, including this issue. I hope whales of our community can initiate something. Like a campaign to brainstorm a new name etc?

    I was just about to mention @demotruk, I remember him talking about rebranding the name. At the time I don't remember if I thought it was crazy or anything like that, but nowadays I see that it would be cool to have something more unique, with less use by other companies and people, so, mentioning "hive" or "a new name" would already be referring to us.

    I've suggested once or twice on the Hive Discord server and in the next X that if we were to officially use a hashtag, it should be #hiveblockchain. That one only works within our hive. So, as I always say, we need unity. We need unity to cut down the DHF, we need unity to grow HP, to keep users engaged, to attract new users, and we also need unity on other networks, to generate engagement, to communicate, not thinking about monetizing X or anything like that, but rather understanding that if someone comments "hiveblockchain" and each post gets about 10 interactions, with a lot of engagement, the algorithm will show that to many people.

    In short, we are human, and humans are complicated. Unity solves everything, but nobody wants to give in; it's like that old saying, "I want to see you do well, but not better than me." Right now, uniting and cutting our own arm to streamline DHF's accounts and everything else was necessary, but nobody wants to do it. Maybe one day we'll organize ourselves better.

    I understand your point, especially about the name confusion on X. It must be frustrating when people cannot easily find the real Hive among other projects. I also agree that talking about the problems is not enough, there needs to be a clear plan for the future.

    I've long thought that we have a branding issue. There are just too many things called Hive, including other crypto projects. That does make us less discoverable. Maybe we could do a subtle change like HiveChain that is more unique.

    We also have the issue that it can be non-obvious that all the dapps are on the same chain. Everything could have a 'Built on Hive' (or whatever we call it).

    There are no quick fixes to the lack of users, but reducing confusing could help. I'm just not a marketing person though.

    Oddly enough I've known about the Hive stock since it came out years ago but now with the attention that AI and Bitcoin has been getting, HIVE (the stock) has been getting more eyes than Hive crypto. If anything this is just another route for people to discover the Hive blockchain but I agree that the brand and identity is a bit confusing for new investors.

    To make things even worse there are several Hive tokens out there in crypto which have been launched on different chains.

    The technology needs new innovation and another Splinterlands moment where a major Dapp utilizes Hive blockchain and onboards new users in large numbers.

    My account on X got banned as a bot, which is really frustrating because I ceased to post Hive links because they were shadowbanned getting like 2 or 3 likes with 70 views. While trolling or commenting gave houndreds thousands of views, but with little conversion into Hive. So I have decided it's pointless - I should focus more on Hive side

    It is actually not a matter of brain, maybe of realism ? People lack of logic and so realism is also lacking. People believe in miracles....miracle cures, miracle happening. The realistic person just process the reality how it is. In stats we can't never secure something as 100% or 0%. Thats why we are happy with numbers that are close to 100 or 0, but they never reach those. So I can say that there is still a chance to get Hive to 10 or 20$...but the chances are low and probably somewhere between 0 and 1%. These numbers can change depending of what happens, but right now that is the reality.

    Wow Erikah! So much to think about and reflect on. It’s not just the necessary name change, but also a shift in everything the brand represents—and even the people involved. I’m holding onto hope; if there’s a new opportunity for Hive, or whatever it ends up being called—we need to focus on trustworthy people. I’d like to think that the people sticking around during this crisis are loyal, though I’ve learned not to trust anyone. For now, I’m humbly helping out with curation, but I hope to be part of a brighter future for us once we truly lift this project up as a team... Hugs! ✌️

    First thing to do is upvote the return proposal. Second thing to do is launch and get approved a DHF proposal that burn daily the % of inflation asignated to DHF. Third, promote projects that include a native Hive burning mechanism.

    Rebranding Hive into something else would not solve the problem of invisibility of our token, sure it would avoid confusion with the other Hive but still our token is not listed on any exchange in USA. Yes you can perform acrobatics and go via DEXes but this prevents 99% of people in the largest financial market in the world from having access to it.

    Our hands are basically tied at this point unless those higher up decide they want to do something about it. I have a feeling many of them are ghost accounts though.
