If I may, would like to add a perspective that should make it clearer;
The governance of any code out there has the ability to edit the code.
So there is nothing to prevent anything on any blockchain.
However, to present what you call "a sad day" in its true light, it was a GRAND day for Steem!
Steem was the first blockchain with a governance that put the blockchain as priority #1 and not stake.
It is a "sad day" when tokens are the foundation for a blockchains existential security to be put into question.
As this manipulation of tokens was prevented, what you consider to be "a sad day" in the history of blockchains to date, Steem has set a precedence, in that a Witnesses first and foremost responsibility and duty is to ensure the existential security of the blockchain and not to be puppets of any of the tokens that may be using the blockchain as a ledger.
That my man, is HISTORY IN THE MAKING!
Likewise, all actions taken in ref. to the relevant stake were done so as per the code that Stinc itself approved back in 2016/2017 and with every other HF in which it was not removed.
Likewise the actions taken were exclusively done as per the terms and conditions that agreed upon when they were coded in.
Likewise the actions taken were 100% in coherence with the necessity to ensure the relevant stake, (which was not burned 4 years ago, when Ned abused it manipulate with the governance) is utilized as per the agreed upon terms.
SO THAT IS THE GRANDEST OF DAYS IN THE HISTORY OF BLOCKCHAIN.
