Europe road trip again!: February 13 2024

This year started weird and it seems like it will continue this way.

Just before 2023 ended, I was on my long journey back home after spending 3 weeks of my annual leave in Poland.

Year 2024 barely started and I’m on the road again… going to Poland 🇵🇱 again… by car too!

Before you ask - no, I wasn’t planning 2 long road trips like this so close to each other. I did however have a feeling that some time this year I’ll be traveling to Poland again, probably by plane, for my uncle’s funeral.

Sure, I wanted to believe he’ll wake up from the coma. Had I not visited him in hospital back in December, I’d probably have more hope for this to happen.

But I did visit him, hence why the hope was not high. I knew this trip was coming, but how did I ended up at the ferry port again?

With the family emergency came family reunion, which I also hoped for happening some time this year. Plane tickets are usually quite expensive at such a short notice, so my brother and I both would have to pay a lot for them and then try to organise the transport from the airports in Poland which are nowhere close to the location of the funeral.

When the phone call with the news came, I was at the last day of the salsa congress. Sad as they were, I still attended the last dance party on Sunday and when I came back to my room I realised my brother’s partner tried calling me. It was way too late to return the call that evening, but when I chatted to her the following day, we quickly agreed that it would be a better option to go all together by car and split the cost.

So here we go again! I still went to work yesterday and explained the situation, then booked an emergency holiday. I still took both of my walking breaks and did a few of the most urgent tasks before leaving couple hours earlier to pack and get ready for the journey.

The whole day was an emotional rollercoaster and I really, really wanted to smoke, but… I didn’t! 😁
