Los páramos de la cordillera de Los Andes venezolanos, se originan hace unos 50 millones de años con el espectacular choque de tres placas tectónicas; la historia geológica describe que el contacto de la placa oceánica de Nazca contra las placas del caribe y suramericana, obligó a la primera a hundirse mientras las otras fueron empujadas hacia arriba esculpiendo impresionantes cadenas montañosas y fallas. El pincel topográfico no fue el único agente actuante, la acuarela hidrológica se hizo presente con la venida de la última glaciación y su inseparable vegetación abierta.
The moor of the Venezuelan Andes mountain range originated some 50 million years ago with the spectacular collision of three tectonic plates; geological history describes that the contact of the oceanic Nazca plate against the Caribbean and South American plates forced the first to sink while the others were pushed upwards, sculpting impressive mountain ranges and faults. The topographic brush was not the only acting agent, the hydrological watercolor was present with the coming of the last glaciation and its inseparable open vegetation.
De esta manera, con una edad aproximada de 10.000 años, este paraíso montañoso se engalanó con la presencia de muchos cuerpos naturales de agua, entre ellos ríos, cascadas, manantiales, lagunas y diversas venas que drenan rápidamente chocando contra las rocas. A unos 15 kilómetros de la laguna Mucubají, situada a más de 3600 metros de altura, saliendo del estado Mérida por la carretera que conduce a Barinas; aunque la temperatura era baja, hicimos una parada para apreciar este santuario hidrobiológico y tomarnos un poco de agua de montaña.
Thus, with an approximate age of 10,000 years, this mountain paradise was adorned with the presence of many natural bodies of water, including rivers, waterfalls, springs, lagoons and various veins that drain rapidly crashing against the rocks. About 15 kilometers from the Mucubají Lagoon, located at more than 3600 meters above sea level, leaving Merida State on the road leading to Barinas; although the temperature was low, we made a stop to appreciate this hydrobiological sanctuary and drink some mountain water.

Aguas arriba el líquido es completamente cristalino; sin embargo, al embestir alegremente contra las elegantes rocas, el agua adquiere un aspecto blanquecino porque sencillamente pasa por un fenómeno hidrodinámico en el cual se airea para encapsular oxígeno y formar diminutas burbujas que proporcionan este espectro cromático, que por cierto dura pocos segundos porque al caer en un tramo con pocas piedras, diminuye la velocidad y con esa serenidad vuelve la transparencia cristalina que permite apreciar el fondo del río.
Upstream, the liquid is completely crystalline; however, when the water is happily rammed against the elegant rocks, it acquires a whitish appearance because it simply goes through a hydrodynamic phenomenon in which it is aerated to encapsulate oxygen and form tiny bubbles that provide this chromatic spectrum, which by the way lasts a few seconds because when falling in a stretch with few stones, the speed decreases and with that serenity returns the crystalline transparency that allows us to appreciate the bottom of the river.
Al mantenerse aireada el agua, aumenta su calidad y garantiza su sabor inigualable. La despampanante vegetación otorga ese complemento decorativo al vestir de verde las márgenes y paisaje en el horizonte, con una escasa población de arbustos, las gramíneas, helechos, musgos y algas son los gobernantes de la biodiversidad al acoger a una fauna que escasamente es visible a simple vista. Estar en este lugar me transmitió sensaciones de paz, armonía, comprensión, aprecio por la naturaleza y amor hacia todo ser vivo en el planeta.
By keeping the water aerated, it increases its quality and guarantees its unparalleled flavor. The stunning vegetation gives that decorative complement to dress green margins and landscape on the horizon, with a sparse population of shrubs, grasses, ferns, mosses and algae, are the rulers of biodiversity to host a fauna that is barely visible to the naked eye. Being in this place gave me feelings of peace, harmony, understanding, appreciation for nature and love for all living things on the planet.

Este contenido fue creado a partir de una experiencia propia de viaje al estado Mérida, Venezuela. Durante la visita se hizo varias paradas en accidentes geográficos y atractivos ecológicos como el presente. Las tomas de imágenes se realizaron con dispositivo iPhone 14, luego se procesaron en adobe Photoshop 2025, versión 26.0.0 y subidas a mi cuenta personal de imgur.com de donde se tomó el enlace. De igual manera, se realizó revisión documental en sitios señalados en referencia anexa.
This content was created from my own travel experience to the state of Merida, Venezuela. During the visit several stops were made at geographical features and ecological attractions such as this one. The images were taken with iPhone 14 device, then processed in Adobe Photoshop 2025, version 26.0.0 and uploaded to my personal account on imgur.com where the link was taken. Likewise, a documentary review was carried out in the sites indicated in the attached reference.
