Hello hivers. Today, I felt like creating another female portrait in the colorful style I’ve been practicing lately. I still have a lot to learn when it comes to drawing faces such as symmetry and proportions, so only constant practice will help me refine my technique and create great portraits 👌🏻. Let's get to work.
Hace poco compré una caja de crayones de cera así que decidí usarlos para realizar este retrato para el cual también utilicé cartulina de construcción rosada, lápiz, marcador y bolígrafo negro y un poquito de esmalte para uñas blanco.
I recently bought a box of wax crayons, so I decided to use them to create this portrait, for which I also used pink construction paper, a pencil, a black marker, a black pen, and a little bit of white nail polish.

Empecé con el boceto que la verdad es que me dió bastante trabajo hacerlo porque no me convencía y a cada rato lo borraba 🤔🥴😬🤦🏻♀️ jajaja.
I started with the sketch, which, to be honest, was quite a struggle because I wasn't happy with it and kept erasing it over and over again 🤔🥴😬🤦🏻♀️ hahaha.
Para este retrato elegí la gama de colores que van desde el amarillo hasta el rojo, son colores cálidos, me pareció que iban a verse bien sobre el fondo rosado claro. Lo primero que hice fue marcar los puntos de mayor luz con crayón blanco seguido con el amarillo.
For this portrait, I chose a color palette ranging from yellow to red, warm colors that I felt would look good on the pale pink background. The first thing I did was mark the brightest points with a white crayon, followed by yellow.
El anaranjado para el tono dominante de la piel. Después se me ocurrió usar el color opuesto para marcar la sombra, o sea, el azul, se veía un poquito raro pero ya estaba ahí jajaja 🤷🏻♀️. Agregué rojo para crear un efecto más natural a la sombra y también para marcar las partes más oscuras de la piel.
I used orange for the dominant skin tone. Then I had the idea to use the opposite color, which is blue, to mark the shadow, it looked a bit weird, but it was already done, hahaha 🤷🏻♀️. I added red to create a more natural effect in the shadows and to define the darkest areas of the skin.
La mirada es la parte que más realismo le da a un retrato y aunque parezca la más difícil, personalmente, me parece la más sencilla ya que son los pequeños detalles los que le dan ese realismo. Para darle vida a este ojo utilicé crayones azul oscuro, morado y celeste, para la pupila usé bolígrafo y marcador negro. También agregué detalles como el cabello y las cejas.
The eyes are what brings the most realism to a portrait, although it might seem the most difficult part, I personally find it the easiest, as it's the small details that create that sense of realism. To bring this eye to life, I used dark blue, purple, and light blue crayons, while using a black pen and a black marker for the pupil. I also added details such as the hair and eyebrows.
Quería un retrato equilibrado y que tuviese una armonía de colores, sin que ninguno le quitara protagonismo a los demás y por eso elegí usar un tono rosado sobre los labios de esta modelo, usé el mismo tono para darle color a las uñas y al fondo. Es increíble como los puntos blancos de luz con el esmalte de uñas transformaron la mirada y le dieron vida al dibujo. Las pestañas las dibujé con bolígrafo negro porque el marcador que tengo es muy grueso. Los últimos detalles fueron colorear el cabello, agregar un poquito mas de rojo a las sombras y de naranja a la piel de la mano.
I wanted a balanced portrait with harmonious colors, where no single element overshadowed the others, that's why I chose a pinkish tone for the model's lips and used that same shade for her nails and the background. It's amazing how the white highlights with the nail polish transformed the look and brought the drawing to life. I drew the eyelashes with a black pen because my marker is too thick. The final touches were coloring the hair and adding a bit more red to the shadows and orange to the skin of the hand.
