There is this version of me that comes alive only when I am in the bathroom alone. That time, he is always free from the worries of some unfinished discussions, architectural drawings waiting to be completed, money, the next thing on to do list, and no fear of singing off key. He holds a toothbrush or toothpaste as the microphone while he sings and performs like he has been paid tons of money to perform. And once the bathing is done and the shower goes off, the superstar Michael Jackson in me goes back to being an ordinary me.
Imagining myself as a famous singer, I would make Afro soul with a touch of highlife. And that is because I want music that sounds so good during a family gathering, yet it will make the listeners think about their lives on their journey home. I may not have the voice of Michael Jackson or that of Beyonce to carry those notes, but I would gladly and joyfully own the part of a song that makes everyone sing along without knowing all the lyrics.
For my imaginary music group, I would choose @hopestylist @merit.ahama and @afrikens from hive. I have seen these three lovely ladies participate in some of the music contests on here, and I must say they have got the voice of angels, exactly what I needed to add different flavor to our group.
I would want @hopestylist for the warmth that comes with her voice when she sings, plus the personality she could bring to our sound, @merit.ahama to come, and her own touch of creativity, and @afrikens for the highlife aspect to bring a fresh energy to the mix. I know for sure there might be little disagreement over the type of beat to use at first, the lyrics, or who is going to sing the most, but things like that will only make us bond more for the group to become more interesting.
I wouldn't want all of us to be sounding the same way. I would love for us to bring our difference together in a space and come up with music that any of us would have made while alone. At the end of the day, a good music band always requires more than people who can sing; it needs room for people who can be patient with one another and create room for another.
What is funny is that I can easily write and publish my thoughts on my hive page without hearing any of my followers sing them back. But with music, that is always different. It will only give the chance for people to listen and hear a side of me that is not shown in my writing.
But for now, my body wash bottle and shampoo container will continue to enjoy my exclusive performance; they have never for once complained about my voice.
