[TV] How to Get Away with Murder

I have seen a lot of law, crime, and murder movies in the past, and I have seen a lot of people giving their honest opinion and reviews according to what they obviously think about those films. But I must say, watching How to get away with murder changed some things about those previous movies I've seen, especially a lot of scenes that I was unable to predict because I never saw it coming. And so far, among those related movies that I've watched, this is among my top ten....

Though I really enjoy watching law-related movies no matter how boring they are, when I began to watch How To Get Away With Murder, my thought was like, "I'm watching another crime series, but I didn't expect what I saw. Because of this series, I began to care about people that, on a normal day, I wouldn't have any iota of sympathy for. What even got me more surprised was that I got to care less about the whole murder situation.

And I began to care about the terrible mistake and decision made by ordinary people, then another person until having to cover up the first mistake that was done looked very dangerous than the crime that was committed.

And then, there was Annalisa Keating herself.

Though before this movie, I have seen several videos of Viola Davis, and I must say she's a very good actress. Good at any role she plays, just like her brilliant performance in my last review on "The Woman King." She acted as Annalise Keating in this series, and for one reason, she kept me watching because I don't just think she was one hell of a brilliant professor and lawyer. And what I noticed about her is that she's full of aura, blooming with confidence, and she destroys any of her opponents in any courtroom. But she has her personal problems, dealing with addiction, grief, betrayal, marriage problems, and even some repercussions of choices she has made that she can't undo. All those scenes were something believable and humane because she can be full of confidence, frightening in one scene, while in another scene, she is completely down and buried in her own problems, and none of these look fake.

And then, there are some students who even made the whole storyline more interesting to watch because I never expected a lot of things from them, especially Wes Gibbons. A student who looks so innocent, but because he was in a way connected to Annalise's past, the whole situation made him more important than I saw him at first. And there's Connor, who always hides his insecurities behind being funny and showing confidence. And I saw how Pratt shows ambitious moves and is always eager to show her presence anywhere she finds herself. And some other characters like Asher and Laurel who also contributed their part.

And then, Bonnie was introduced, but I noticed her in a way that some people didn't pay attention to because I noticed how loyal she was to Annalise compared to other students of hers. What was between them was more than ordinary friendship. They both shared some things from the past, like pain, emotional dependence, a need to be needed, and even gratitude. And I like how this series obviously showed the other side of Frank because at first, I saw him as someone with zero conscience, but later on, I saw how much guilt and trauma he has in his life too.

What I admired, I'll commend the writer on: how much this show has a lot of flips from constantly changing my view on the characters because, at some point, I keep changing the character I like because they all have other sides to them. At first I trusted some character, and just in the next episode, they started doing the unimaginable and suspicious things. And someone that started with a bad side can do something I like in the next episode...so that was just something unstable, which made the show uncertainly addictive.

And sometimes I did not expect to see in this series, which looks different from other series that will only show the past event after a long watch. It was how I got to see what happened in the future with all the consequences before they showed me how everyone reached that point. I really enjoyed that because it forced me to pay more attention even though it was frustrating at first, but all the pieces got connected at the end.... And one scene I liked was when, apart from Annalisa Keating facing her opponent in the courtroom, the students all sat down together. In a room when they got terrified and figured out who to trust and how to keep themselves together.

There were a lot of scenes I don't like and some scenes I like that I didn't include because I don't want to give a spoiler to anyone coming across this, so you can watch and come back here to tell me how you saw the series. I would gladly recommend this movie if you are someone like me who especially enjoys watching law-related movies, crime shows, and murder shows that will keep giving you different suspense.

He visto muchas películas sobre derecho, crímenes y asesinatos en el pasado, y he visto a mucha gente dar su opinión sincera y sus críticas según lo que, obviamente, piensan de esas películas. Pero debo decir que ver «Cómo salirse con la suya» ha cambiado algunas cosas respecto a esas películas anteriores que he visto, sobre todo muchas escenas que no pude predecir porque nunca me las esperaba. Y, hasta ahora, de entre todas esas películas relacionadas que he visto, esta se encuentra entre mis diez favoritas...

Aunque me encanta ver películas relacionadas con el derecho, por muy aburridas que sean, cuando empecé a ver «Cómo salirse con la suya», pensé algo así como: «Estoy viendo otra serie policíaca, pero no me esperaba lo que vi». Gracias a esta serie, empecé a preocuparme por personas por las que, en un día cualquiera, no habría sentido ni una pizca de simpatía. Lo que más me sorprendió fue que acabé prestando menos atención a toda la situación del asesinato.

Y empecé a preocuparme por el terrible error y la decisión tomada por gente corriente, y luego por otra persona, hasta el punto de que tener que encubrir el primer error cometido parecía mucho más peligroso que el propio delito.

Y luego estaba la propia Annalise Keating.

Aunque antes de esta película ya había visto varios vídeos de Viola Davis, y debo decir que es una actriz muy buena. Se le da bien cualquier papel que interprete, al igual que su brillante actuación en mi última reseña sobre «The Woman King». En esta serie interpretó a Annalise Keating y, por una razón, me mantuvo enganchado, porque no solo creo que fuera una profesora y abogada brillante como pocas. Lo que me llamó la atención de ella es que rebosa carisma, irradia confianza y arrasa con cualquiera de sus oponentes en cualquier sala de juicios. Pero tiene sus problemas personales: lidia con la adicción, el duelo, la traición, los problemas matrimoniales e incluso algunas repercusiones de decisiones que ha tomado y que no puede deshacer. Todas esas escenas resultaban creíbles y humanas, porque es capaz de mostrarse llena de confianza e intimidante en una escena, mientras que en otra está completamente abatida y sumida en sus propios problemas, y nada de esto parece falso.

Y luego están algunos estudiantes que incluso hicieron que toda la trama resultara más interesante de ver, porque nunca esperaba gran cosa de ellos, especialmente de Wes Gibbons. Un estudiante que parece tan inocente, pero que, al estar relacionado de alguna manera con el pasado de Annalise, toda la situación le hizo más importante de lo que me pareció al principio. Y está Connor, que siempre oculta sus inseguridades tras su sentido del humor y su apariencia de confianza. Y vi cómo Pratt da pasos ambiciosos y siempre está deseosa de dejar sentir su presencia allá donde se encuentre. Y otros personajes como Asher y Laurel, que también aportaron su granito de arena.

Y luego apareció Bonnie, pero me fijé en ella de una forma en la que algunas personas no prestaron atención, porque me di cuenta de lo leal que era a Annalise en comparación con otros de sus alumnos. Lo que había entre ellas era más que una simple amistad. Ambas compartían algunas cosas del pasado, como el dolor, la dependencia emocional, la necesidad de sentirse necesarias e incluso la gratitud. Y me gusta cómo esta serie mostró claramente la otra cara de Frank, porque al principio lo veía como alguien sin conciencia alguna, pero más adelante me di cuenta de cuánta culpa y trauma tiene también en su vida.

Lo que más admiro, y por lo que felicito al guionista, es cómo esta serie da tantos giros que cambia constantemente mi opinión sobre los personajes, ya que, en algún momento, voy cambiando de favorito porque todos tienen otras facetas. Al principio confiaba en algún personaje y, justo en el siguiente episodio, empezaba a hacer cosas inimaginables y sospechosas. Y alguien que empezó mostrando su lado malo puede hacer algo que me guste en el siguiente episodio… así que era algo inestable, lo que hacía que la serie resultara inquietantemente adictiva.

Y a veces veía cosas que no me esperaba en esta serie, que se diferencia de otras series que solo muestran los acontecimientos pasados tras un largo tiempo de visionado. Fue así como pude ver lo que sucedía en el futuro, con todas las consecuencias, antes de que me mostraran cómo todos habían llegado a ese punto. Me gustó mucho eso porque me obligaba a prestar más atención, aunque al principio resultara frustrante, pero al final todas las piezas encajaron... Y una escena que me gustó fue cuando, aparte de Annalisa Keating enfrentándose a su oponente en la sala del tribunal, todos los estudiantes se sentaron juntos. En una sala en la que se sintieron aterrorizados y tuvieron que averiguar en quién confiar y cómo mantener la compostura.

Hubo muchas escenas que no me gustaron y algunas que sí me gustaron pero que no he incluido porque no quiero desvelar nada a quien lea esto, así que podéis verla y volver aquí para contarme qué os ha parecido la serie. Recomendaría encantada esta película si sois como yo, que disfrutáis especialmente viendo películas relacionadas con el derecho, series policíacas y series de asesinatos que no dejan de ofreceros diferentes momentos de suspense.
