Why growing, some of my friends who had pets like cats, dogs usually refer to those pets as family and I didn't understand until I kept some rabbits not for anything, just had them. I had a wooden box near my window where I kept them, chewing carrots, vegetables, their foods and scratching the wood with their sharp nails whenever they needed attention.
I remember moving from one garden to another to get a specific leaves for them. And I can easily look at them through the ventilation net, and when they see me open the box, they come close. I liked that routine of taking care of them. There was something pleasing and comforting about them knowing I was the one giving it food.
But having those cut rabbits made me realise the part that no one ever says online or put in cute pictures. Even when I am extremely busy with other things, they needed my attention, I must clean and sweep where there are been kept. Give them clean water. Make sure thier environment is safe, give them clean food. Even when I am staying out for long than I expected, I think of them..
And for those periods, I loved it even though I struggled with it in a way that I had another living thing in my care and I must take responsibility everyday. Currently, I do no like any pet, but someday on the future, I would like to get myself a dog. Don't have a breed yet. And recently and with what I have seen, read and watched, dogs always have this emotional connection with their owners and the make them feel important. After a long exhausted day, and when you are back home, they are always happy to see you.
Still, I know when I get one, the difficult part will not be giving it food or caring for it. But it would be having it in my life means loving it and taking responsibility for a life that cannot explain what it needs. And maybe that is why I still miss this rabbits because they never said thank you, they only waited for me and use their nails to call my attention sometimes.
