The Dreams I Outgrew #302

Seeing this topic brought a lot of memories to my mind because, as far as I can imagine, I changed my dream job more times than I changed my school uniform.

When I was still very young, I wanted to be a footballer. Then, I could play ball from morning till night and always picture myself playing in a big stadium. Then I moved into a higher class where life became more serious and readings were getting serious; turning to mechanical engineering entered my head.

I fell in love with the idea of understanding machines, and I was also good at fixing things at home, so right from there, people around started calling me 'engineer' even before I told myself I wanted to become one. But life happens, and it always has a plan….

Today, I am an architect. And while writing this post, I was just smiling because I find it so funny that the younger me, who was so good at playing football and knows how to repair things now, spends all my time thinking about how to make space come alive, thinking about building, drawings and different ways to use them.

But then, at the moment, that is not the only thing I do. I'm also a writer on Hive, which, in a way, sounded strange to me. Because back then, my whole imagination was that a job was when I dressed up every morning and collected salary at the end of the month.

Now, my perspective on work has shifted in a different way. And I believe that some of my dreams were not my destination as destiny planned it, because they were just clues about what fascinated me when I was at different ages and stages of my life.

Playing football then taught me how to compete in a healthy way. I got my reflection on how things work from engineering. And now, architecture has given me the curiosity about how to manage space and how it breathes, and writing has given me another way to make sense of life and how to express my thoughts in writing.

And me thinking deeper right now, I don't think I have abandoned any of those childhood dreams. I just feel I have grown into another version of them that has made me what I am today.

Thank you for reading.
