Growing up, I used to think those who had just a favourite colour had only picked a colour and stayed with it since then. But as I grew older, I got to realise that people some people had changed their favourite colours over and over again, and now, some can even have several favourite colours. Then, I mine used to be orange just because most of my school interhouse sports back then, I always fall into orange house.
Then over time, the colour wine began finding its way into my choices. It was not something that started just once. I noticed it In the second car my dad bought back then. It was cool. Then I started noticing how my eyes always catches up to the wine colour anywhere I pass. My eyes keep returning to that colour anytime I noticed it.
And as time goes on, I noticed that it upgraded, and I began to admire it In designs, paints, outfits, on people, furniture, and things that I could have easily ignored in the past. I eventually got to know that I was no longer choosing colours because they were something I am familiar with. I was deciding what actually caught my attention.
And that was one of the changes that I least expected about me growing older. My taste changed from what others used to like because they were familiar with it into what felt like me. Wine colour has more depth than orange and something orange never gave me. It is very cool, and noticeable does not shout or calls your attention, it is warm without being noisy.
Orange is still a colour I like. Just that my priorities does not just go there automatically unlike before. And maybe that is why wine is now my favourite. And that alone reminds me that even something as small as a colour can change when I stop deciding from my random habits and start noticing what I genuinely like. And I feel this is equally applicable to you reading as well.
