[Manga] The amazing stories from Junji Ito in "Shiver":Selected Stories.

  I was in my library and wanted to find a manga, since I was waiting for a couple that I ordered to be available. So I was using ChatGPT and my library's database to find something that fits my taste, and it recommended Junji Ito's manga. The name wasn't strange to me, and after I asked about this manga called "Shiver - Select Stories", it mentioned a specific story that bugged my mind. Yes, I saw an animation of this story before in the miniseries "Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre".

  For those who don't know Junji Ito, he is a horror master who specialized in manga, basically influenced by Western movies and H.P. Lovecraft; he focused on stories that bring out the eerie and eccentric. It is interesting how his stories are very similar to the Twilight Zone episodes. But of course, a live-action version of his stories would be grotesque since he explores the absurd. "Shivers" brings 9 full stories + an extra short story by Junji Ito, selected by himself. Including the "Hanging Blip," which is called in Episode 3 of Netflix's miniseries "The Hanging Balloon".

  Most of the stories create a certain kind of trauma in us, and some have horrible monsters behind them, and "Shiver" also includes comments from the author about how he was inspired to write/draw that story. And I was amazed to realize that the "Shiver" story was based on the knowledge of little holes that are found in insects called spiracles. So the person under the curse of that cursed item in the story started to get these holes in their body. Creepy right?

  But the monster that made me have nightmares is the fashion model from the story "Fashion Model" called Miss Fuchi, i who is also found in the bonus story. A tall and ugly model with fangs instead of teeth who loves to eat human flesh. The creativity in here is so crazy; he got the inspiration from looking at a model in a fashion magazine that he found with a creepy look. But of course, this model is probably different from Miss Fuchi.

  But of course, "The hanging blimp" has an interesting background: the suicide of a famous person. Maybe the incredible story that appears after is so impossible, like a balloon with everyone's face holding a long string that hangs people's heads. If you don't have time to read the manga, I recommend watching the animated version. But the manga has so many details in the art, and the first time I started to read one of the stories, I could only finish it after it ended. I will get the other manga from the author for sure.

Lovecraft; ele se concentra em histórias que trazem à tona o sinistro e o excêntrico. É interessante como suas histórias são muito semelhantes aos episódios de Além da Imaginação. Mas é claro que uma versão live-action de suas histórias seria grotesca, já que ele explora o absurdo. "Shivers" traz 9 histórias completas + uma história curta extra de Junji Ito, selecionadas pelo próprio autor. Incluindo "The Hanging Blimp", que no Episódio 3 da minissérie da Netflix é chamado de "The Hanging Balloon".

Então, a pessoa que estava sob a maldição daquele objeto amaldiçoado na história começou a desenvolver esses buracos pelo corpo. Assustador, não?

  Mas o monstro que me fez ter pesadelos é a modelo da história "Fashion Model", chamada Miss Fuchi, que também aparece na história bônus. Uma modelo alta e feia, com presas no lugar dos dentes, que adora comer carne humana. A criatividade aqui é simplesmente insana; ele teve a inspiração ao olhar para uma modelo em uma revista de moda que encontrou e que tinha um olhar assustador. Mas, é claro, essa modelo provavelmente é diferente da Miss Fuchi.

  Mas, é claro, "The Hanging Blimp" tem uma história interessante por trás: o suicídio de uma pessoa famosa. Talvez a incrível história que aparece depois seja tão impossível quanto um balão com o rosto de cada pessoa segurando uma longa corda que enforca as pessoas. Se você não tiver tempo para ler o mangá, recomendo assistir à versão animada. Mas o mangá tem tantos detalhes na arte que, na primeira vez que comecei a ler uma das histórias, só consegui terminá-la depois que ela acabou. Com certeza vou procurar outros mangás do autor.
