If someone picked up my phone and opened my gallery expecting to discover an interesting collection of selfies, vacations, beautiful meals and carefully captured moments, they would probably be disappointed.
My gallery is a mess and honestly, it says a lot about me because a very large part of my camera roll is screenshots...
Not screenshots of conversations or funny memes... Most of mine are screenshots of information I don't want to forget.
I can be reading something online and suddenly see something interesting... Screenshot..
I come across an idea that I think might be useful later.. Screenshot...
Someone shares information about business, technology, finance, a place I might want to visit, a course, an opportunity or something completely random that catches my attention... Screenshot... And then I tell myself.. "I'll come back to this later."..
The funny part is that "later" sometimes never comes. I have probably saved enough information in my phone to start about ten different businesses, learn five new skills and completely change my career path..
The problem is finding that particular screenshot when I actually need it.
Sometimes I remember seeing something two months ago and start scrolling through my gallery like an archaeologist looking for an ancient artifact... "I know I saved it somewhere." Then I scroll. Scroll. Scroll and discover another screenshot that I also completely forgot about but if my gallery could actually tell my story, I think the biggest thing it would reveal is that I'm naturally curious...
I like discovering things. I like learning something today that I didn't know yesterday... Sometimes I don't even know why I saved something.. I just see it and think, "This could be useful someday."...
There are also pictures that have nothing to do with learning. Random places I've been. Funny things I saw during the day. People I care about. Things that made me stop for a few seconds and think, "Let me capture this." But even those random pictures tell a story...
They show what catches my attention and I think that's what a camera roll really is..
It's not necessarily a collection of the most important moments of your life...
It's a collection of the moments you felt were worth keeping. Instagram shows people what we want them to see. Our camera roll is usually much more honest.. Mine would probably tell someone that I'm always collecting something. An idea. A piece of information. A reminder. A possibility.
Sometimes I think that's actually a reflection of how my mind works because I don't like letting useful information disappear... Even when I don't have an immediate use for it, I like knowing that I can return to it when the time comes...
So, if you scrolled through my gallery, you probably wouldn't learn everything about me but you would definitely learn one thing...
I'm the kind of person who sees information as something worth keeping and apparently, my phone has become the place where I keep all of it...
My gallery isn't really a photo album anymore. It's basically my second brain.... A very disorganized one though.
