Faltan pocos días para que termine el mes y, como siempre, nos tocaba diseñar una nueva iniciativa en nuestra querida comunidad Hive Argentina y, por supuesto, para todo el ecosistema de Hive. Esta vez, en vez de lanzarme a inventar un nuevo tema, me cruzó una pregunta que hace rato le vengo dando vueltas: ¿Seguimos necesitando las iniciativas tal como las veníamos haciendo, o ya es momento de repensarlas? Así que decidimos que la iniciativa de este mes sea justamente esa pregunta, porque creemos que nos va a servir a todos.

There are only a few days left until the end of the month and, as always, it was time for us to design a new initiative in our beloved Hive Argentina community and, of course, for the entire Hive ecosystem. This time, instead of jumping in to invent a new topic, a question crossed my mind that I've been turning over for a while: Do we still need initiatives the way we've been doing them, or is it time to rethink them?
So we decided that this month's initiative would be exactly that question, because we believe it will be useful for all of us.
Las iniciativas son parte de la historia de nuestro ecosistema y en nuestra comunidad las hacemos mensualmente. Siempre con la intención de darle un empujón a la musa creativa, exponemos un tema, una consigna, algo que te saque del bloqueo del "no sé sobre qué escribir hoy" y te ponga en movimiento, y creemos que durante mucho tiempo funcionó bárbaro. Pero también tenemos que ser honestos y conscientes de que las fórmulas no son para siempre. Las comunidades cambian, la gente que participa cambia, y lo que antes era una chispa, capaz hoy ya se siente medio repetido.
Creemos que lo bueno de las iniciativas son varios factores. La constancia es uno de ellos, porque como que te obligan a sentarte a escribir inclusive en esos días que no tenés ganas. Formar comunidad: todos hablando sobre un tema parecido en la misma semana genera un intercambio, comentarios, lectura cruzada y, por supuesto, aumentamos nuestra marca personal. Algo muy importante que creemos es que representan una entrada fundamental para los nuevos creadores de contenido. Los que ingresan como con una hoja en blanco y, con estas iniciativas, encuentran formas y aprenden de qué va la filosofía de nuestro ecosistema.
Dicho esto, también tenemos que marcar los contras que, a nuestro entender, pueden estar frenando la participación. En primer lugar, creo que la repetición del formato, mes tras mes con la misma estructura, puede volverse previsible y monótono. Personas que escriben para cumplir y no porque la consigna realmente les movió algo o tengan algo para decir que sume valor. Y también detectamos cierto cansancio colectivo con estas dinámicas, aunque nadie lo diga en voz alta.

Initiatives are part of the history of our ecosystem and in our community we run them monthly. Always with the intention of giving the creative muse a push, we put forward a topic, a prompt, something that gets you out of the "I don't know what to write about today" block and gets you moving — and we believe that for a long time it worked wonderfully. But we also have to be honest and aware that formulas don't last forever. Communities change, the people who participate change, and what used to be a spark might today feel somewhat repetitive.
We believe the benefits of initiatives come down to several factors. Consistency is one of them, because they kind of force you to sit down and write even on those days when you don't feel like it. Building community: everyone talking about a similar topic in the same week generates an exchange, comments, cross-reading, and of course we grow our personal brand. Something we consider very important is that they represent a fundamental entry point for new content creators. Those who join as if with a blank page and, through these initiatives, find their footing and learn what the philosophy of our ecosystem is all about. That said, we also have to point out the downsides that, in our view, may be holding back participation. First of all, I think the repetition of the format — month after month with the same structure — can become predictable and monotonous. People writing just to fulfil an obligation and not because the prompt truly moved something in them or because they have something to say that adds value. And we also detect a certain collective fatigue with these dynamics, even if nobody says it out loud.
Creemos que las iniciativas tienen que seguir. Sacarlas de raíz sería tirar por la ventana algo que se construyó comunitariamente durante mucho tiempo. Pero también creo, o creemos, que hay que actualizarlas, animarnos a romper un poco la fórmula.
Algunas ideas que se nos ocurren:
En el caso de nuestra comunidad, hacerlas rotativas. Actualmente se encargaba nuestra moderadora @mamaemigrante de hacerlas y yo de publicarlas. La idea sería intercalar iniciativas de diferentes moderadores en meses distintos. Otro punto que se nos ocurre es hacerlo de manera colaborativa o en cadena. Es decir, arranca alguien y el siguiente participante lo continúa o le responde desde su propia mirada. Por ejemplo, la comunidad lanza una iniciativa y cada autor etiqueta a otro autor para que le responda, y así se forma una serie de cadenas, quizás más divertida y entretenida. Otro punto importante que quizás también tenga sentido es realizar cruces con otras comunidades de Hive. Iniciativas conjuntas con comunidades hermanas, para mezclar públicos y generar nuevas lecturas.

Queremos que esta iniciativa sea, literalmente, una conversación con la comunidad o las comunidades. Armá tu voz respondiendo lo que quieras sobre esto:
¿Las iniciativas te ayudaron a destrabar la musa o sentís que ya se volvieron una fórmula repetida? ¿Preferís consignas más puntuales y estructuradas o consignas más libres? ¿Qué otro formato de interacción probarías en la comunidad? Si vos tuvieras que inventar la iniciativa del mes que viene, ¿cuál sería?
Amigos, no hay respuesta correcta ni incorrecta. La idea es que todos pensemos hacia dónde va esto, porque al fin y al cabo la comunidad la construimos entre todos.

We believe initiatives need to continue. Pulling them out by the roots would mean throwing away something that was built as a community over a long time. But we also think they need to be updated — that we need to dare to break the formula a little.
Some ideas that come to mind: In the case of our community, making them rotating. Currently our moderator @mamaemigrante was in charge of creating them and I of publishing them. The idea would be to alternate initiatives from different moderators in different months. Another point that occurs to us is doing it collaboratively or in a chain format. That is, someone starts and the next participant continues it or responds from their own perspective. For example, the community launches an initiative and each author tags another author to respond, and so a series of chains is formed — perhaps more fun and engaging. Another important point that might also make sense is to cross over with other Hive communities. Joint initiatives with sister communities, to mix audiences and generate new perspectives. Now it's your turn. We want this initiative to be, literally, a conversation with the community or communities. Share your voice by responding to whatever you want about this: Did initiatives help you unlock your creative muse, or do you feel they've already become a repeated formula? Do you prefer more specific and structured prompts or freer ones? What other format of interaction would you try in the community? If you had to come up with next month's initiative, what would it be? Friends, there are no right or wrong answers.
