[Movie] Turbulence🎬

Happy weekend, fellow cinephiles—a perfect time to enjoy a good movie. I recently watched this one, and honestly, lately, films just haven’t been meeting my expectations. They’re so trivial—lacking anything exciting or truly impactful that would make you want to watch them more than once.

Synopsis:

A young couple (Zach and his wife) decide to take a romantic hot-air balloon ride over the mountains in Italy, hoping to save their marriage following a painful personal loss. However, the presence of unexpected passengers and blackmail rooted in the past turn the excursion into a tense, high-altitude nightmare of survival.

I recently decided to watch this film after reading a review of it here; it caught my interest, so I figured I’d give it a chance. I must admit, the plot starts off a bit slowly, gradually revealing events that eventually help you make sense of the ending. The story follows a handsome young businessman who, along with his modest wife, embarks on a romantic getaway—a trip they’ve taken following a tragic loss—which includes a planned hot-air balloon ride.

It’s fair to say the film is predictable and basic. There are good performances—notably from the well-known actor Kelsey Grammer—though it’s a shame his screen time was so limited. The production design is passable, featuring stunning mountain scenery, though some of the dialogue feels forced, much like in a soap opera.

On the other hand, the film does manage to incorporate a sense of suspense and fear. At such a great height, the inherent danger—the balloon itself tethered to the basket—adds a claustrophobic quality to the story. That said, it felt a bit absurd that, at such an altitude, everything remained so perfectly still—not even a breeze! Haha—but then again, that’s the nature of cinema; sometimes the focus is more on delivering a story, even if it isn’t particularly believable.

Ultimately, it’s a film to pass the time with; if you don’t have anything better to watch, it can provide an hour of entertainment.
