Greetings, dear community! As I mentioned before, I was commissioned to make an amigurumi nativity scene. This time, I decided to rework the pattern I used in previous years and approach it differently. So, today I’m sharing my new version of the ox—which, while it might look quite similar to the previous one at first glance, was created using a completely different method. I hope you like it!
Proceso / Process
In my previous version, I worked the body starting from the top of the ox’s back and worked my way down to the belly, leaving openings to attach the legs. This time, however, I did it the other way around: I started at the belly with a foundation chain of 8 stitches. In the first row, I worked double increases into the corner stitches, creating a base for further increases—specifically, I added 3 increases on each side in the subsequent rows until I had an oval with 36 stitches.
Separately, I made the legs, each 14 stitches wide. When joining them to the oval—connecting them across 5 stitches each—this resulted in an increase of 9 stitches per leg in the following row. I then continued working the body with 52 single crochet stitches for 8 rows.
On one side, I made 3 decreases to create a rounded shape, while I closed the top of the back in a straight line by aligning the stitches and sewing them together using a tapestry needle. The main reason for changing the pattern from the previous version is that, by working the body from the bottom up, I could leave 18 stitches open for the neck, allowing for a better connection to the head.
For the head, I worked 6 single crochet stitches into a ring, followed by 6 rounds of increases, 9 rounds without increases, and 4 rounds of decreases, ending with 18 stitches that are then joined to the neck. For the muzzle, I started with a foundation chain of 6 and added increases along the sides to create an oval of 26 stitches, then worked 2 rounds to add volume. Finally, I sewed on the horns, ears, and tail.
